Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • German Auto will be able to do anything that APR offer. Don't discount other tuners though, just because APR is the largest one.

    • Oh sure thanks. To be honest I have no idea what's out there in the way of tunes, so any advice there would be greatly appreciated as well.

      • My reasoning was, if you're going to spend $500+ on other Stage 2-ish mods later to get a little bit extra power, why wouldn't you spend a few extra hundred $ to get a similar amount of extra power from just the ECU tune. I also like to use companies that I feel confident won't disappear after a few years. I'm not saying any others will, but back in 2010 I hadn't noticed much talk of any other brands besides APR, and the nearest dealer is <30 mins away (mostly due to traffic).

From what I've read from other members, who-ever you go with, you'll be ecstatic over the power differences. You won't miss something you've never experienced.

        • I'd guess that even if they don't list each specific tune if they do one they do them all.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

          • This is the link for the Golf GT sport (MKV)

APR - High Performance Development for Audi, VW and Porsche Vehicles.

they can do it pretty much whilst you wait at German Auto.

i put my polo gti back to stock for about a week, then back to 98RON tune.... the difference is amazing...

couldn't wipe the smile off my face

We should have all details up on the website with a week, and the other transmissions listed in the sponsors forum later today.

Details on the DQ200 software programming:

Harding Performance DSG Software & Hardware program.

DQ 200 (7 speed dry clutch – Golf TSI, Polo, Skoda 118 etc)

                Performance Software:

Standard recommended upgrade pack: Recommended retail $995-00

                - Custom D and S programs
                - 1st gear Re-activation
                - Less unwanted downshift on light acceleration

All new 7-speed DSG’s with dry clutch have software “compromises”. They shift overly early, and do not make great use of 1st gear. This causes annoying vibrations when the DSG shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, slow reaction on the throttle from low rpm and low speeds, possible damage to transmission & excessive wear on the dual mass flywheel & clutch packs.

Surveyed customers tend not to use “S” mode as it holds the gear far too long for regular city driving, and find “D” mode too lazy.

Our new software solves this problem.

In D Mode we give you much better drivability, and the S mode becomes much more useful. When driving in D, most 1.4TSI’s shift over to 7th gear at 58km/h, we set this to 78km/h. This means the car will not drive at the super low 1150rpm anymore. The engine will stay above 1400rpm. No noticeable change in fuel consumption.

1st gear reactivation, the 7 speed DSG’s do not use 1st gear any longer, only when taking off from a complete standstill. This causes abnormal wear & shuddering in the clutch packs (particularly the 1st to 2nd gear change). When driving below 17km/h the throttle response is poor as the gear is too high & RPM too low. Our software uses first gear for speeds up to 17kmph.

Other options: (add more than one option and the price becomes $199 per option)

                - Torque limiter delete $299-00
                - Torque capacity threshold upgrade up to 350Nm $299-00
                - Max. shifting RPM $299-00
                - Raised downshift rpm $299-00

Our standard package is recommended for most "enthusiasts", the other "options" are really for someone who is pushing the limits or who have a custom request.

If you have a race specific application or big turbo application, then tied with in with different engine remapping, we should have a transmission solution for you.

                  • Haven't done any performance upgrades yet due to location and lack of dealers I can carry car to. My only options are removal of ecu to be posted to a foreign country to get flashes for stage 1...

OR buy a TMC tuning box. You guys ever used one of these? It retails for £299.00 ( I think plus VAT) and I can install it myself in about 30 min supposedly. Can be removed before dealer servicing to avoid detection

Whaddaya think? Also do CAI void warranties or do dealers just say this to scare customers?

Hi Rawcpoppa, have you looked into Superchips Bluefin stage 1? You can order the device then just send/receive maps via email.

                        • To the guys who have gone with the S3 intercooler: what type of mounting bolts will I need? The s3 intercooler is deeper than the stock one so I'm guessing I will need new bolts/screws?
