Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Has anyone had any experience or know much about the REVO stage 2 map for the twincharger? Any idea how it would compare to the APR Stage 1 map? There's the published outputs for both but i know those numbers aren't necessarily reflective of real life outputs.

I am told directly by the seller that there is no functional difference between the two adapters, but only a visual (style) difference. One leaves a more visible gap while the taller one covers it.
They were the ones I would have leaned towards, but good to get confirmation on the difference.

      Famous last words?

Very keen to hear about your experiences both in installing these and what difference they make once in. Definately something I have looked at more than a few times now.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

      • The plan is to engage Andrew down at VolkService to help with rewiring at the least.

Will be keen to see what changes are needed.

Also, if you haven't stumbled across it already, this is another place to keep an eye on this place since they got the twincharger in the UK:

              • Hi Guys,

Im pretty new around here but I have spent heaps of time reading around and looking for info on this. I am wanting to fit a GTI exhaust and wondering if anyone has attempted this here or get an idea of what exhaust setups you guys are running. I really want a dual exhaust but its looking like the rear valance for our cars isn't a direct fit with the GTI valance.

Keen on any advice that you have.

I don't know for sure but i'm pretty sure you've got two options:
                  1. Buy a rear GTI bumper and used exhaust, get it fitted. It will require some chopping, maybe welding and fitting of exhaust.
                  2. Get in touch with the folks at SuperCircuit in Malaysia and ask who makes those parts, the link below shows a job doing exactly what you want.

Both will be expensive ways to get the symmetry you're craving.

I've got a turbo back milltek exhaust about to go onto my 118tsi but it keeps the same two outlets on the left.

Keep googling, email people, ask for prices etc. Call wreckers, ask for prices. Gumtree. People upgrade GTI exhausts all the time, you should be able to score used exhaust fairly cheap. Got a feeling the back bumper will cost you the most because people crash. Theres an OEM cat back in Brisbane from a 2011 GTI for $325 below.

Don't just google 118 TSI, also search 1.4 TSI, 1.4 Twincharger, Golf GT etc. Also, set Ebay search settings to worldwide if you didn't already. Post "Want To Buy" ads in forums and quote your budget, never know whats in someone's garage.

                  • Thanks so much Mk R. I just spoke to those guys at Super Circuit in Malaysia and they were really helpful. They are going to get me a price on that rear diffuser. I got that exhaust down to $200 on gumtree so I am sure I can pick one up pretty cheap. Hopefully with a bit of fabrication I can get what I want. I will keep you posted.

I know there are thousands of videos on youtube, but please post a video when you have your TB exhaust on. What tune are you getting after putting it on?

                    • Mate, you're welcome, any time!

Have a 118 TSI stage 2 post in this tuning section so keep an eye on there, that's where the posts will go! Next steps are:

                      1. Exhaust install
                      2. Remap to stage 2
                      3. Dyno

                      Then some boring stuff...
                      4. Fix roof lining and Fix foggy headlight

                      Theeeeeeen maybe:
                      5. 6sp short shifter
                      6. Flat bottom steering wheel
                      7. 18" Koya CR Tek or GTC CX

No rush though, see what happens! Will keep the updates coming though...

Sounds epic. I found a Dyno in Brisbane and they charge $70 for 3 power runs and a printout so I will be doing that pre and post APR stage 1 tune. Then I think I am going to do rims and Eibach sports springs. So many mods, so little money!!!

                        • In my humble opinion...

Get sport springs for a 1 inch drop, stage 1 tune and sway bars first. Also always get a compression test at service and do a 5,000km service interval.

I'm definitely going to get my tune next. But I am of the opinion that it's better to do wheels before dropping it because if I drop it on my stock 16's it might not be what I want when I get wheels. So I think I'll do Tune then wheels. I will look into sway bars for sure.

I drive 500ks a week to work so I was just going to do 7500 services myself and have Eurotune Miami do my 15's. I will definitely ask them to do a compression test.

Have you had any engine issues at all?
