Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If they're reading this, they wont be surprised I'm on here so quickly. It took 50 metres from take off for my brain to catch up and tell my mouth to let the laugh out. I have no experience of other tuners so this is necessarily an APR plug. The docile R under 3k rpm that I drove there is gone. The upgrade has made the car a different beast in the low revs. It pulls so well my high expectations have been exceeded. And as a manual it's so much easier to drive, I can't believe how it now behaves in traffic and 50/60km zones, my life just got so much easier. Intake sounds great too. Not light and day but I can notice it. Intakes draw their fair level of banter around the forums and I'm no expert. I just know what I know from my car and for me, glad I did it. I met a great r32 driver too getting an upgrade. Took him for a post upgrade spin. Think he was happy with the experience... his back imprint is still in the passenger seat! I'm off for a drive.
Sounds great man. Which intake did you get?

I think RichoR2 meant the standard intake sounds better after the stage I.

Your second option is the answer, being 'that one'

                • Apparently logger is having trouble again with his tune? Another 118tsi user with the tune reported that he had to change the program every 4th ignition to keep the mojo. Any GTI owners experiencing this lost of mojo as well? You shouldn't need to change the program all the time just to keep the program 'alive'?

                  • I switched the program today when heading down to a computer shop to pickup another hard-drive (about a 20 min journey). On the way back, it felt like I didn't have the tune running (acceleration wasn't as punchy as usual, and you can tell by the noise it makes. A little later into the journey it sounded like it was running Stage 1 again (judging by the sound of the supercharger), but I didn't have the power that I've been accustomed to recently. This is the first time I haven't used Shell vPower in this car (could only see BP Ultimate when in Mansfield the other day), but it's still 98 RON so it shouldn't make any dif.

I'll see if I can find a pattern and email APR about it. It's a pain when the available power is unpredictable, but when it is working it is superb. If you pootling along at ~60kph (in an 80 zone), and want to overtake, engaging Sport mode and putting your foot down just rockets you past so quickly. Your passenger would no doubt spill his green slurpy drink (or whatever it is in the ad) all over him
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

                    • Is it only the APR tune that resets itself? Can it be fixed.. I find it odd cause none the other tunes I have ever used have done that, Power Fc, Unichip, silverwater etc..

For $1500 flash hopefully there's a fix for this fantastic product

                      • In the MKV GTI days, I never heard of a single "flash" fault. It was always something else causing the issue. A faulty diverter value. The fuel pump not being able to keep up with things, etc. It's sometimes very difficult to determine where the cause lays

Probably because the mods would have removed any negative posts with regard to any APR faults.

I don't think the mods on this forum deserve a smear like that. You obviously have an axe to grind against APR, perhaps you should take those issues up with APR rather than besmirching the reputation of the mods on this forum.

LMAO. Not having a dig at Corey at all, (hes a lovely fellow!) but this site is UNQUESTIONABLY pro APR. If you even breath wrong about the product, you are pulled down, ridiculed and just made to look stupid. I just read stuff like people having problems with their flash resetting?? And know for myself if it is being correctly represented in the forum. (Its not - look at the rattle issue from VW - thats talked about openly.)

But you dont have to have a grind to be aware of whats going on. I AM getting the APR tune when I want a tune, but that still doesn't mean that we cant question whats going on with these somewhat, volatile flash tunes right now. Its not good enough for the money you pay and needs to be fixed, just like when Apple, or Subaru put out a fix.. same thing.

We shouldnt sweep it under the carpet and pretend its perfect.. which is exactly what we are doing on VW.

Like I said I am looking forward to getting an APR tune when its time, but keep it real.
