62k from a set of tyres and still more to come....bugger me. I was lucky to get 40,000 from my conti's!!!!
I love the PE2s, always planned to get them after the originals wore out, but they were discontinued well before then. A mate had them on his from factory as well and I believe his lasted longer yet....he lives in mountain hills and floors it everywhere so if he got that much, I can expect at least the same. They still grip fine as well. Haven't asked him what he replaced them with, his car is well over the 100k mark now but same age as mine.

My car is in for a service today and I've just been told the 1 year old Falken Ziex ZE-912 fitted to my car only have about 2mm left in the front before hitting the wear indicators and and very unevenly worn on the rear (which I had suspected from the thrumming noise from the rear of the car lately). Pretty disappointing considering I've probably only done between 10000-15000km on them.
I had my heart set on getting the Michellin PS3's which they have quoted at $280/corner, but apparently Continental have a buy 4 pay for 3 deal on the moment so they have recommended the ContiMaxContact MC3 for $235x3.
Anyone have any experience with those Conti's? The price difference is compelling.
Continental contact sport 5 are the equivalent to ps3s. So they are quoting you a 'lower' tyre. Look around for better process on ps3s or get a quote on Goodyear eagle f1s as well

If you've got 2mm left then I don't see why you need to make a hasty decision. Get a front and rear wheel alignment done and then you should be as to buy some time to then make an educated decision on your tyre replacements. But after just coming from contis to Goodyears it's night and day for me and I'll be going Goodyears again for sure.
I ended up with the Continental MC5 after deciding that the difference in price was too great to ignore. I did have a change of heart and wanted to swap to the Michelin PS3 but was too late by then.
In my research I didn't find anything specifically bad with the Conti's but the are more of a touring tyre. The Michelin's are better but it was $415 difference and I hadn't expected that the Falkens were in such bad condition (my original plan was to rotate them but the drivers side rear wear was all over the place and the passenger side wasn't much better). Plus given how quickly the fronts have worn in the 15000km since they were put on they weren't going to last much longer anyway and I'm travelling over Christmas.
I probably should have stepped back and taken the time to research and ring around, but frankly doing it now while I was already without the car was far easier. And now hopefully I won't have to worry about losing traction when taking off in the wet when gently breathing on the throttle.

Why do you need to make a quick decision if it's 2mm before they are illegal?
It's not the tyres fault they are worn out - you're wheel alignment is wrong.

The reason for the quick decision was convenience. The car was already in for a service anyway, there's only 3 weeks till Christmas, I'm away next weekend so can't organise anything then (plus I don't want to go on a long drive when I've been told my tyres are stuffed and I've already been having traction issues with gentle driving in the wet) and its a pain to organise during the week when I'm at work.
Front wheel alignment was within range was only the back that was out so I'll blame alignment for the back only.
After the traction issues and noise coming from the rear im happy to be rid of them. The tyres were ****, I wasn't wowed by them on my partners old car and having my car come with them didn't make me think better of them. Plenty of backup for my opinion in Google.

Look you're right I probably did panic a bit. My original plan was to just rotate the tyres but the state of them meant that plan went out the window. But even if I had 3000km left in them that was going to get eaten up pretty quickly in the driving I'm doing over the next month (500km round trip this weekend and 500km round trip at Christmas plus any incidental driving in between, then a holiday in Jan). And I already knew I had traction issues in the old tyres even though they were technically legal.
Maybe the workshop stitched me up a bit on the price, but then I thought the prices they gave me sounded reasonable based off previous experience/reading. When I first got the car I thought the PS3's were in the $400 range per corner in the correct size so I thought the quoted $280 was pretty good for them. The max contacts were a special pay for 3 get 4 and I don't think the sport contacts are included in that so from the money side they only way I would have saved going elsewhere would be to buy the same tyres as I got anyway.
Ultimately I wanted the PS3's, but time and money constraints meant that didn't happen. Maybe next time.
I still think your all playing with your "Willys" put you in a car on a trackday and you wouldn t be able to tell one brand name tyre from the next, let alone driving around the suburbs.

Disagree, there is a noticeable difference in performance tyres vs normal tyres in grip levels. It's very easy to tell as well. My last car (a v8 statesman) came with Michelin ps3 on the front, and yum cha dimax radar r8 on the back. It was like a drift machine as soon as there was a sprinkle - it was almost undrivable. I bought a set of rims and new tyres to replace them ( couldn't even accelerate from a standing start to keep up with traffic without spinning the wheels. It was as bad as an unloaded ute). New rims had khumo ku31 an entry level sports tyre, from a decent brand. Night and day difference. Not as good as the ps3s at the front, but you could drive it 'normally' without skating all over the road. The yum chas were only 12 months old (according to guy I bought car off) and looked 90%+ tread.
