  • Hmm yeah Tempe are drastically cheaper than anywhere else. I was planning on putting 2 PS3 s on but the Goodyear deal is attractive, I think the PS3s woukd be a better tyre though.

They both have there pros & cons. In the end they are similar, yet different. I'd take either.

If you already have Michelin, I'd stick with them.

The Goodyear F1A2 and Michelin PS3 are very similar in both dry and wet
The Goodyear does have more dry grip but you have to push really hard to find out about it

        The main differences are:
The Goodyear has a stiff sidewall, as such it has awesome initial turn in and steering feel
        The Goodyear is more noisy

I got 55,000km out of a pair of Goodyear F1A2 on the front of my Octavia

Have you had both tyres on the same car to do your comparison?

I'm thinking of the PS3 for my ST, it currently has the Goodyear F1s and no way are they getting to 55,000 kms!

Yes, I replaced all 4 tyres with PS3's when I purchased the car
While the PS3's are a wonderful tyre they don't have the turn in response and feel that I like
After using the PS3's for a few months I replaced the front two with F1A2 and was over the moon with the tyre
(I kept the PS3's from the front, I'll put them on the rear when they wear out)

I'm now running a pair of PSS tyres on the front
They are more comfortable and quieter than the F1A2
They have heaps of grip - very good in the wet
The turn in feel is in-between the PS3 and the F1A2

Thanks for the feedback .... I have no complaints about the Goodyear apart from needing them to warm up a little but had expected the PS3 to be better overall .... so I'll need to reconsider.

              • The PS3s are getting on a bit in age, I put them on well over 5yrs ago so wouldn't be surprised if they release something else soon as well.

                • My preference for the Goodyear F1A2 is because I have a motorsport and track day bias
I think most people would be very happy with the PS3

                  • That's good to know - it really does seem like PSS => PS2 > Goodyear F1A2 > PS3

Shame I can't get the PS2 in the right size/load rating in Aus for the Focus ST but am keen to get something better than the F1A2 for the Focus.

However, I may reconsider getting the PS3 for my VRS and going for the F1A2 instead for it.

                    • Ok got the F1 A2s fitted from Croydon, as there is a pay for 3 get 4 promo on I got them for $600 fitted for 4. The same as just two PS3. It was dark when I got home but it appeared there was that black gunk on the rim, hoping it's not a scratch but I could feel it and not get it off.

                      • Yeah turns out there is a thin light scratch running half the rim but not sure my wife didn't recently do it so going to leave it. However I took the car for a decent run today to make sure it's all good before handing it over to my parents later in the month (sold it to them) and I'm getting an almighty shuddering on any freeway at 100km/hr. I thought it might just be a stretch of rd but it's was on others as well. Not so noticeable at 80 and not really at all around 60km/hr. I took it home and checked tyre pressures they were all different so evened them up (obviously all hot temps) at around 38psi and took it on a nice bit of freeway. Was still bad at 100km/hr feels like the front left and is almost like the tyre has a lump or somthing, it thumps along, no noise just your arms shaken a lot through the steering wheel. I checked the wheel and it had some new weights on the inside edge but none on the outer. It didn't do this prior to the new tyres and my wife had only recently driven on the same roads the day of fitting with no issues. I wanted to test it yesterday just in case as it would be easier sorting it out with them if something like this happened so annoyed. There are no 100km roads near the tyre place so it's gonna be a pain showing them this let alone getting back there. They did alignment as well but that all feels the same. I don't think the tyres could be the issue, does it sound like balancing is off?

                        • It could be the tyre or the balancing

                          • You woukd think balancing woukd be ok, but lately I'm finding I have to double check everything.

                            • They reckon it threw off a weight. Will take it back on Wed and hope its not someone forgot to do something else.....especially if the alignment was setup wrong

                              • Yep - it happens (rarely)

Just make sure they use stick on weights inside the wheel drum
(Not the edge crimp on weights - they are for steel wheels)
