honestly, i'm calling BS on the dealer but i'm interested to see if my gut is right.

The dealer i went with was able to get me an MY 16 with identical options and an extended warranty cheaper than my local who offered to swap the MY16 for an MY15 (saving $1k) and no extra warranty.

doesn't make any sense to me and i have no idea how my local dealer will stay in business.

Given the demand and wait for the car, I don't think they mind missing out on a sale or two.

My understanding was there would be negligible difference in price for MY16, but we'll see when they release the price list

Finally received the telephone call we have been waiting for. We will be collecting the car at 11am tomorrow. I can't say I am excited but it will be nice to finally have the vehicle after such a long wait.

Surprisingly we get to keep the factory fitted wheels as the Turinis are apparently a dealer fitted option. This will give us spare wheels for when we next take a drive across Australia.

$1600. Yes it is a lot and I could have got cheaper after market wheels but we liked the look of them and frankly I think they make the car just that little bit more special. The black Turini's on the Black Magic Pearl paint look very nice.

If you are storing tyres then keep in mind they will go hard & skatey with age.

Manufacturers generally recommend changing tyres after 5 or 6 years, particularly if kept in storage and not used. In sunlight or wet conditions stored tyres will last a lot less. Always check manufactured date on tyres,particularly less popular sizes or brands. Hope you are enjoying the car

Aging ,hardness, grip will also vary with the make up of the tyre. Rubber, silica and other additives. Thus as they say "your milage may vary"

I know in Europe the wife's cousins have to throw out their tyres (they run a summer set & a winter set) around the 8 yr mark no matter how much tread they have.

When Australia was getting the massive shipments of 2nd hand tyres, most of them were throw-aways from Europe.

Hi, ordered mine in Geelong, it is on the Tirranna which is currently heading to Baltimore it then stops at 3 or 4 other US ports. Probably offloading a few Golfs. Due Melbourne in mid July if no delays, then 2 or so weeks at Patricks, then the wait for the dealer to get their part done. Have noticed a few more skodas around Ballarat, pity the local vw dealer doesn't do skoda's as well. Just realised I have not seen a VRS in Ballarat, only superbs,ambition/Elegance and today the first of the new Scouts (white).
