  • Congratulations GTR27

Your persistence is an inspiration to all of us waiting for our Unicorns. I hope you and your wife enjoy your Christmas present.

My wife and I are hoping for an Easter present, but I am not going to get excited that that may happen.

      • Thanks everyone.

The rims are alaris rims. I'll take some better photos today of everything and make sure I include the rims.

So you did it as per the guide at BriSkoda that takes about 2 hours or did you find a short cut?

          • Sidelights in headlights take 5secs. Unscrew the cap, pull the light out, change it, back in call back on. Same for both sides.

The front indicators are terrible. Sealed black plastic that you need to cut into to get the globe, and it's in an out of the way spot. Would be 2 hours I reckon to replace them

Edit: I was going to replace the indicators, until I have seen how hard they are to do. Will wait a bit I think.

            • Ah ha.

I thought it was the bumper off job. One of Skodas backward steps in maintenance.

              • No you could get to the blinkers from the back, but it is fiddly. The other gloves all readily accessable

Some better/closer photos of the rims for MJKoolio

                  So far my thoughts :-

The Bad (well not bad, just I have noticed - for the money, the car is crazy good)

                  * Interior material quality is a step down from the mk2 RS I had. It had soft touch plastic everywhere, the new mk3 only has it on the top of the dash, and top of the front doors. The rest is hard/scratchy plastic. It looks nice, but doesnt feel really nice like the mk2 did.
                  * The switchgear feels cheaper than a mk2 - not quite as "nice/tactile" but still very nice switchgear
                  * gearbox feels slightly "notchy" although lots of people say this is what mk3's are like. Not as smooth as the mk2 was, but we have been spoilt by our honda which hands down has the nices gearbox ive ever used (pity its attached behind a lawn mower engine with 0 torque)
                  * I actually have to think about taking off - under 1500 rpm, there is literally nothing. I have to keep reminding myself that it's only a 1.4, but it seems to be a fine balance between take off, bog down completely, or light up the front tyres in wheelspin. I'm sure i'll get used to it, but its worth noting.
                  * First is quite short, and as I think Gerrycan noted, 2nd is quite long. Means you have to use first a bit more than "normal". Contrary to others, I think the car overall has tall gearing, and is fantastic for the highway.
                  * there is very little engine braking. Like, almost none!

                  OK now the good

The engine is a cracker, and for 1.4L is bloody awesome. Just have to be mindful it is still a 1.4L engine, and it performs fine. I'm not even trying for economy, and im loading the car up, on/off throttle, constantly changing gears to vary load/revs and we're down to 7.5L/100. We picked it up showing 10L/100 (I assume dealer left it idling for a long time). I havent been "gentle" so for that sort of economy, it's outstanding.

All of the features work really well. Nothing seems half arsed. The ACC is bloody brilliant, and the rvc is surprisingly useful (i use mirrors reversing, but I use the camera to see if i'm in the garage far enough ha ha).

The car is smooth and quiet, especially on the highway. There is no booming noise or pressure, like some others have experienced.

The sunroof is freaking AWESOME. The car (especially from the back seat) feels really open and airy. For the money, the car feels really premium, and certainly looks the business.

The xenons are excellent, and the cornering function seems useful. A bit weird at first, but good now im used to it.

There's probably other stuff, but I have to duck off now (do home duties) so may edit and post more tonight. We are very happy with the car, that's for sure!

                            • Not sure if we need lights that bright really.
It is actually getting to dangerous for other road users.
I was nearly blinded by the headlights of an oncoming motorcycle which were right in my eyes from 500 metres away.
Not sure if they were on full beam or dipped with heavy rear passenger.
                              THIS WAS IN FULL SUNLIGHT!

                              • The lights point downwards, so it's not bad for car behind. My driveway is sloped, and I was down the slope which exaggerates the lights. They are really bright, but stop short of being obnoxious.

Once I get the led indicators for the rear lights (and reverse lights) I'll have a fully led rear.

Gotta call up and hopefully book car in for tint on Saturday....
