Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • I measured the height of my front guards today, as I am suspicious that my car has the wrong springs. The Octy TDI wagons @ work sit lower than my TSI vRS. Could anyone who has a vRS wagon with the standard suspension and standard wheels assist?? All I need is the measurement from ground (hopefully level concrete or similar) to the lip of the guard at the highest point of the front wheel arches. Mine are 680 LHS & 679 RHS.
Thank you in anticipation for your help.

        • its not wagon, but my liftback measurements r:-
          front - 680mm
          rear - 690mm

maybe the TDI wagon u saw @ work has the optional skoda lowering springs (accessory part # ZGB1Z3071676).....aka the eibach prokit.
apparently lots of RS sold here in canberra come with these as dealer fit option.

i'm getting mine installed next week. will take some measurements after the install n let u know.

Are the transport spacers still fitted to the springs?

If it's any help, my stock suspension Elegance Hatch is 695mm but my tyres are 12mm bigger in radius than stock - so in theory my std ride height is 683mm which should make an RS about 660mm?

my TSI RS almost has the same height as redline's. only difference is his is a wagon n mine a liftback. that would possibly explain the 10mm difference between the two.
after fitting the eibach prokit, which has a 20mm drop, i'm expecting for it to become 660mm & 670mm.

ur figures for the elegance r interesting though......

              • If you are measuring properly, you should measure from the centre of the hub to the top of the guard. This removes any variable due to tyre diameter.

Also, you should note the amount of fuel. On mine, Full down to 1/4 is just over 10mm difference

                • Just did the measurements.
                  MY12 vRS TDI

                  1/4 fuel:
                  677 - Front Wheel
                  380 - Front Hub
                  680 - Rear Wheel
                  373 - Rear Hub

                  1/1 Fuel:
                  675 - Front Wheel
                  380 - Front Hub
                  675 - Rear Wheel
                  370 - Rear Hub

Don't know why there are differences. Looking at the numbers, somethings gotta be wrong.
Perhaps I didn't get the hubs completely spot on every time, but... :S

.. after a bit of Optimum instant gloss enhancer she now looks pretty shmick, and the blackest I've ever seen her

                        • F_CK. Some idiot young prick ran up my arse tonight, while I was totally stopped in traffic. D*ckhead was probably texting on his phone. Rear bumper is cracked, both reflectors broken, hopefully nothing underneath. Just grand

If there is an upside, my bumper had a few chips on it, so now I get a new one. Just hope they can match the metallic ok

Damn man. Feel for ya. It seems a couple are having a bad streak recently eh? I'm still sitting here waiting anxiously for the verdict on my Cruze. Really hope somehow its a write-off. Don't really like the lingering thought that the cars been damaged and the thought that its never going to be the same again.

I guess if you take it as an upside that since your bumper already had some chips in it then you'll get it fixed without forking out (asides from the inconvenience). Hope nothing major beneath is damaged. Good luck mate. Let us know how you go.

I know it's a relatively minor thing in the grand scheme of things but it's just such a piss off when you take such pride in your things and some careless idiot damages it!

Will update here with how I go. Good luck with getting your car(s) fixed too!
