Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Twenty years ago being an 09 or 10 complied car would have made a reasonable difference in the resale value but now it has no monetary effect at all when a car is a couple years old.
Waiting till January will just mean prolonging the anticipation normally associated with Christmas.

On a recent trip to Madrid, I was surprised to see that roughly two thirds of all the taxis I saw were Skoda Octavias. Doesn't say much for the equivalent Seat model (Leon, I think).

Saw a red Octavia wagon at the roundabout on the intersection of Glenfern Rd, Brenock Park Drv and Cornhill St in Ferntree Gully late yesterday afternoon when taking my nephew out for a driving lesson. The people in it seemed pretty pleased to see another Skoda and were smiling and waving. I smiled and waved back.

I have seen that one a couple of times in recent weeks as well. It must live somewhere in that area.

was on a movie set last night and as i walking past to go to a scene, I noticed a black, Face Lift Octavia Wagon TFSI parked on the side of the road ( This was about an hour out of Newcastle). And later that night noticed it was a woman driving it but i didn;t get a chance to say hello and chat about the car. Maybe next week when i'm back on set.

saw a brilliant silver FL RS wagon turning into Highfields Rd off the Pacific Hwy in Newcastle ... last Sat morning. Bright sunshine but the LED running lights still pierced through.

Can also see a black RS wagon in my driveway in about 3mths time ... why do you always have to wait for the things you want the most

G'day Loobie, there is actually 2 of us that have Bright silver FL RS wagons in Newcastle. Mine has dark tinted windows and sports a tow bar as well, I haven't seen the other dude yet, but I'm sure i'll bump into him soon. Mine is a 2.0 TDI with DSG. I loved taking the TFSI manual for a spin when i test drove and really that would have been my pick, but I wanted a bit more torque & fuel economy for towing my bike trailer around the state etc so went the diesel option. They still go bloody quick, just dont have that inital response the TFSI has. Some small mods may fix that

hey Dazag ... didn't get a look at the driver so can't give any clues on tracking them down I'm afraid ! Assuming they're local, sure one of us will see them another time.

I was impressed with the diesel - great shove from 2500rpm and realistically, the mid-range grunt that motor gives is what most drivers really appreciate in normal driving. Absolutely agree that its just a terrific diesel

I leaned towards the petrol more on emotion - just couldn't believe the flexibility of the engine which was unlike any petrol car I've had. Took a GTI (mk v) for a test a couple months ago while my car was being serviced, and it felt a little peaky whereas the RS felt far more linear. Given they're pretty much the same engine, it may have had as much to do with the ride set-up differing between the two and me flapping away like an idiot with the DSG.

anyhow I'll know a lot more when I actually take delivery of it ... its just so painful to feel like a 5 year old 1 week before xmas!!! I'm going to be a bugger to live with until it arrives.

I know the issues with waiting my three months has turned into about 4 months and 2 weeks so just hang in there and it will arrive eventually. There are so many variables in the production process that a day or two either way anywhere can make the difference between this boat or the next one which can mean a week or two difference at delivery. The good thing is that thanks to the other people here I can now track my car daily if I want to. Currently it's between Zeebrugge and Port Elizabeth (South Africa) then Freemantle then Melbourne then (hopefully) to me the week before Christmas by the time it clears Customs and gets through the dealer process.
