Has this only been a recent trend with GIO? I have been with them for the last 2 years and they have been the most competitive on price, even when I told them that the car had been chipped.

    • For as long as ive been driving GIO have always been more expensive with Turbo's... but mind you I haven't bothered with quotes from them in 6 years.

      • They weren t more expensive, just wont cover kids driving it. Its actualy cheaper to insure my vRS through them than my T5 Transporter.

        • i found GIO to b much cheaper than most of the other insurers out there.
i ended up going with allianz, but gio was the next best thing. and that's after comparing quotes from atleast 9 different insurers.
ordered from cheapest to most exy....
          - allianz
          - gio
          - cgu
          - aami
          - youi
          - comminsure
          - realinsurance
          - budget
          - nrma

          • Weird. NRMA was cheapest for me, from memory, it was about $850 (compared with online calculators about 6 months ago).

            • In Sept, I did on line quotes for my vRS with the following results ($36k value, 43yo male driver, $950 excess, 10,000km/yr average, no at fault accidents >10yrs, full points on licence).
              Allianz $630
              Just Car $870
              GIO $890
              NRMA $913
              ING $917
              AAMI $961
              QBE $1113
              Shannons $1217
              YOUI $1387

I still cannot believe YOUI are double the cheapest quote yet they advertise how they listen to you and sell you the insurance you need. Considering I have a good driving history and low annual kms, they are talking s**t.... The car is also in a locked garage, with a locked back yard with remote gate!!

They actually rang a few weeks after the quote to ask if I was still interested. After telling the operator the rpices, she could not explain why it was so high. It pays to shop around.

EDIT - Allianz were also the cheapest CTP (green slip).

Allianz is by far the cheapest CTP I found. However, they were middle of the rung for me (32Yo Male and 28Yo Wife, good driving records etc). I've also got it insured for agreed value of $45k this year (will adjust that next year if I need to), so maybe thats what affected the Allianz quite.

Haha - I had the same sort of conversation with YOUI after doing an online quote... I have a conspiracy theory that YOUI and Bingle etc are fronts to convince consumers that the big boys' pricing isn't that bad. Both of their quotes were laughably out of the ballpark (or maybe we aren't in their target demographic).

GIO were so much cheaper for me when i insured with them last July - about $840 IIRC. First time they have ever managed to get my business. I even moved my house/contents insurance to them after that.

It's Sydney. It sux. I don't think I've paid less than $700 in the last 20 years. Once you get outside of Sydney it goes down a bit.
