Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Cupra Formentor

I saw my first Cupra Formentor on the road a few days ago. Quite a nice looking car I must say. This one was the matte grey colour with the signature copper badges and black/copper wheels.

I really wish they offered this model in Australia with the 2.5L 5 cylinder turbo engine as I would be very very tempted to buy one with that engine package.

Has anyone else seen one in the flesh yet? What did you think of it?

Just saw one this morning along Victoria Rd Ryde, dirty black one with bronze. Really stood out in the crowd.

      +1, me too.

Not made in RHD at all I believe so even if Australia wanted it, won't happen.

Yes I had read it was something to do with the RHD setup which is a shame. I was heavily contemplating buying a 2nd hand RS3 recently, but you need $65k for a nice one and I just couldn't justify it for a car I drive about 50-100km a week. But if that engine came in a bigger car (not the RSQ3...its ugly and too small) then I could justify it as our main family car and replace the SQ5 with it. So its a shame that Cupra wont release this engine in the RHD models.

I am a big fan of the design. The extra size works really well for a growing family without going full SUV, so I put down a deposit for the Formentor VZx.

I had an order down earlier but decided to wait for the MY23 which has a few little updates including a 360 parking camera.

Anyone have any idea how to track the shipping of allocated VINs from Spain? I found an old thread in the VW forums, but the link is long since dead.

I have managed to track my daughter's T-Roc with this from Spain to Brisbane (landed on this past Saturday (15Oct)) with it.

Not really a Formentor, but it's little skim milk cousin, a Leon V Tribe Edition.

Would have loved the extra grunt in the VZ or VZx version, but well outta the budget. Loving it though, nice and nimble and whilst it only has 140kW/320Nm DNNA Budack cycle engine, it still goes well.

                          Cupra Formentor

Nice congrats on your new purchase. I did post this a few weeks ago on another post, but I will ask again as this post seems more appropriate

Hey guys, I have just taken a cupra Leon and Formentor phev for a test drive. Very similar feel to my 2015 Jetta, obviously being part of the VAG group. Much more advanced in regards to driver assistance, the formentor is almost autonomous allowing full removal of hands and feet from the controls for short periods of time.
Cupra mode is fun, responsive and has a nice exhaust note improvement.
I’m looking at phev rather than electric for the government incentives but also preventing range anxiety having a combined range of 1100 klms with a full tank of unleaded and full battery, but only about 80klms range on full EV mode. Enough for the daily commute to work.
Does anyone here have any input on these new vehicles are they customisable using vcds or ODBeleven / carista. Any feedback would be appreciated
                          Thanks Lloyd

Cheers, really enjoying it so far.

The issue with the new models like the Cupra, I'm finding, is that whilst they are VAG platform based, they are just so new, not many are starting the mods yet.

I'm hankering after an ECU Tune (once I get my post brake swap issues sorted), but the engine/ECU combo is too new for any plug in adapters, and ECU hasn't yet been hacked (according to Racing Line), so it's a waiting game at the moment.
