I also feel the "standard" class doesn't really belong in the watercooled section. Mk1 and Mk2 standard awards would make sense but the same for a Mk3-Mk5 doesn't!

I'd personally like a less traditional feel to the awards... something that's done overseas is have awards like "Best Wheels" or "Lowest car". I can see how they can be controversial but that's only if they're taken seriously...

    Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

How about a "Most German" award?

How about we call the classes:

        OEM+ (minor modified)
        Modified (Major modified)

This way you get the "average" VW owner who has a number of smaller mods into one category, and those who have gone all out in another.

Plan B: Have one class for the newer models called modified, but have 5 or 6 places, rather than 2-3 for Stock and Modified.

As long as it doesn't have to drive anywhere, lowest car is easy, just drive it in early and wind down the coils

Long story short, there is lots of good ideas here, but I think what we need is a group of people who will take on the responsibility to organise all aspects of the watercooled side of things for the Nationals. It would most likely involve having our own meetings to sort ourselves out, then being part of both the Club VW monthly meetings and the Nationals Committee meetings. Yes it's a big commitment and a lot of work, but car shows don't just happen by themselves.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

i thought thats what we did this year?

i dont see the problem in scrapping the standard category anyway, just lump em all into one i reckon.

i'm happy to help organise next year.

How can you judge an original stock unmodified VR6 against a modified one like DubSteve,s VR6 in one catergory?

So a brand new car with a set of mags is modified is it Steve??

And then should be judged agains an all out modded monster?

Hawk is right, car shows dont happen by themselves, and we need people to come and help get organized fo next year starting now.

With respect to the judging and awards, i and Neil won the standard category. I dont appreciate your comments Steve, if you're insinuating that there was malice involved in me entering the standard category, i dont appreciate that.

I entered to enjoy myself, i mean why wudnt u enter in all the categories for a laugh? hell i even made the effort for my car to be there. At the end of the day no one had a gun at the judges head. But I was stocked, never expected it a mile away.

I think there needs to be a criteria for the judging of both standard and modified cars prior to the actual day so everyone is well aware of how cars are to be judged and theres transperency with the process. I think there were cars there that should of won something, that didnt. Personally i think Fuzion should of won a place in the modified category. But, thats not taking anything away from the winners.

Big cudos to the judges, its not easy to do, particularly when your decisions are under soo much scrutiny.

Perhaps we should take it as a day where we all enjoyed ourselves, some people won and some didnt. Focus now on how to make it even better next year, as Golf Loon mentioned, the manner in which the cars were set up and placed.

Being my first time, i had a blast and its actually motivated me to prepare for next years.
                        shami,

first of all,it was going around all day that you entered mk4 standard on purpose from the morning.then you act suprised that you won something and attack steve for saying the truth.

then you acuse the judging process for being "not transperant"?????? we have been telling ALL the members here to involve themselfs with the CLUBVW meetings by joining and making a effort to make their meetings SO YOUR OPINION on how to run the nats .ONLY A SMALL HANDFULK of people actually come and another few that help on the day.

im sorry shami, but if anyone is out of line here, its you.

by insinuating there was some shifty or shonky judging because your friend/friends did not win anything not only insults the judges but also the winners.

frankly.im sick to death of the whingers and back biters that come out of the wood work at the end of the nats.

im seriously considering not entering anymore comps if this is the childish and idiotic result every year.7 year old children behave like this, adults should know better.

Im disapointed that a person that made the effort to make amends with me at the nats (which I apprecaited and accepted at face value) then waited till my back was turned to start again.not nice and id be happy to speak with you on the phone.

as for the discussion on modified and standard.in my mind, standard is standard SIMPLE. wheels, exhaust, chip, airfilter, suspension+seats constitutes MODIFIED.

we say it every year matt and no one listens....come to the meetings and make your opinion COUNT!

I also agree that one mod by itself should not be modded, that was made clear last year if I remember correctly.3+ was modded.

Again it seems people can't discuss ways to make progress, rather you are all choosing ways to critisise each other for something that has happened in the past.

Unless you can discuss based on an agenda that is a mater of fact as opposed to a matter of opinion then this conversation stops here. Use your energy to work on ways to help improve rather than critisise something that Matt and Aaron have put so much into.
