It was a good day, although theres only so many times u can walk around looking at the cars.

With respect to the judging and awards, i and Neil won the standard category. I dont appreciate your comments Steve, if you're insinuating that there was malice involved in me entering the standard category, i dont appreciate that.

I entered to enjoy myself, i mean why wudnt u enter in all the categories for a laugh? hell i even made the effort for my car to be there. At the end of the day no one had a gun at the judges head. But I was stocked, never expected it a mile away.

I think there needs to be a criteria for the judging of both standard and modified cars prior to the actual day so everyone is well aware of how cars are to be judged and theres transperency with the process. I think there were cars there that should of won something, that didnt. Personally i think Fuzion should of won a place in the modified category. But, thats not taking anything away from the winners.

Big cudos to the judges, its not easy to do, particularly when your decisions are under soo much scrutiny.

Perhaps we should take it as a day where we all enjoyed ourselves, some people won and some didnt. Focus now on how to make it even better next year, as Golf Loon mentioned, the manner in which the cars were set up and placed.

Being my first time, i had a blast and its actually motivated me to prepare for next years.

(wtf was that about). thanks to the judges as well for the time/effort for the day and missing out on half the cars.

next year i'll be entering best mk3 cabrio standard and best 67 beetle i think... if ill even be there!

Shami relax all I am saying is that the standard catergory means standard, wheels, standard ride height, standard body. You can only say so much to standard unless you have done polished engine bits. I wasn't having a go at you as you told me you entered the standard catergory thats fine bro. All I am saying is that Neils car that was entered in Modified came out a winner in Standard obviously somewhere along the communication lines somethng has gone really wrong

If I had the chance I would have entered my car its still not ready still in primer, if I had a slat bed sitting in the back of my yard and a car with a tow I would have brought the car along thats all I am saying.

The modified vs standard debate is something that needs to be confirmed in a very clear way. In the aircooled scene ANYTHING at all is considered a mod, so different hub caps, hell even an air filter and it's "modified".

In watercooled we were hoping to be a little more lenient and allow the individual to pick which category they wanted to enter in, although the rule was that you couldn't enter BOTH modified and standard. The idea here was that if you had an exhaust a chip and a new set of wheels you could still enter in standard, after all to the naked eye the car would be pretty much "standard". In standard it's supposed to be more about the fit, finish and overall clean-ness, in modified it's about the sum of all the mods (as well as fit and finish).

For example, look at the new beetle with the flames, well and truly a modified car, but what hope would a stocker with a set of wheels have against it? Is that otherwise stock vehicle modified?

I think people should be able to choose which category they want to enter in and be judged accordingly. ie the flash wheels don't score extra points over the stockers in standard class. BUT the judges (as a group) should also have the final say if they think a car should be in another category.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

a big thanks to aaron for organising all the pre entry forms, made life a load easier for us.

Other than that a great day overall, was great to see some of the watercooled beasts in person, some hot cars out.

Congrats to all those that won and represtented the forum.

There was a sky blue wagon, looked original as can be, spoke to the owner he said he had owned it since brand new.

Also did anyone notice the old skool burgandy 1972 Audi 80 outside. That thing looked so original, there are probably a handful left in australia. he wanted $5000+

thanks for everyone who participated in the organising of the event.
                      - we needed more space between cars.
                      - standard category should not exist.

apart from that i had enjoyable day.

Thats quite true there dude, if you have a think how many cars are "Standard" everyone is some how modified, I think we should look towards the air cooler guys as a medium on how they judge. They have got it down pat after so many years of doing it, they must know something

I say take some pointers from them. Drop the standard catergory put more enphisys on the modified catergory and go hard at that, 2 awards for each catergory best mk? all round and thats it.

Was just thinking about it all and something like this would work imo.

Car is standard if it has any and only these mods.

Lowered (coilovers would put you in modded i think)
                          Pod filter
                          Rims
                          exhaust tip/ system
very minor style changes i.e gti flares on a non gti mk1.

Stereo does not count as a mod in my book.

Anything other than these mods or you have 5 or more mods including the above you go into modified.

The criteria for how a modded and standard car need to be sorted out 100% as you need to judge them on different criteria.

Standard would obviously be how clean the car is overall, how clean is the paint is the interior tidy. The allowed mods shouldn't be taken into account when scoring, if you want the mods to be scored put it in modified.

Modified would need to use the above standard criteria except take into account what mods have been made. i.e. is it a clean car, have the mods been made in a tidy fashion and what mods have been made. Now someone who has put a 20vt into a mk1 for example shouldn't automatically take out modified, what mods have been made need to be scored on a lower basis as it is really all about fit and finish, the 20vt should win best engineered for the work gone into getting the engine in.

I also think drive through judging could work or we need to have better info for the judges. Yesterday they didn't know what cars were in what category or anything, which must have made it impossible to do and they had to guess.

All changes to the car should be noted on the entry form and/or somewhere with the car for judging, the judges should have a copy of mods and all details on the car before judging it.

We have plenty of time to sort it all out but it really needs to happen better next year. We have once again suprised club vw with out turnout so that can only help with what requests we make.

Having a non-modified car from the 60's and 70's is hard work. Buying one in the late 90's or 00's is not. IMO there shouldn't be a standard class unless it's 15+ years old.

Matt I don't agree if it has been modified with anything other than factory form thats modification, lowered not standard, new wheels not standard, exhaust is hard to judge by if your not told about it. Asthetic things modified. You have modified the car other than it came out from the factory.

I lean towards agreeing with this. Perhaps best of class would be a more suitable award for the later models (mk4 & 5), but still have an award for best standard watercooled. It wouldn't be hard to create an equation that takes into account the age of the car and formulates a final result based on how clean and well presented the car is for it's age.

I won the best standard mk4 due to a clerical error I believe. I entered into modified Mk4 and my car was very clean. Had my car been judged on being standard I shouldn't have won that award as it was quite obvious my car is rather modified.
