Yeah I noticed a definite split.. didn't even see Gav, Ant or Sean out there..

I figure if you can't take me on the straight then maybe you should stay behind me, I'm not in a rocket-ship (obvious tongue in cheek)
I always try to be considerate of the faster cars, although watching one of the clips back I missed the Lotus in my rearview first time round as I think we all wanted to get out of the mini-jam...

Reading through, I would hate to think that any new-comers would be discouraged from attending in fear of slowing someone down. Cars that can do 1:01 on a 'Lakeside Timed Lap' have events to do 1:01... It's Happy Laps, not Time Attack. I don't like traffic as much as the next guy, but what do you do? I don't feel there's any problems as long as we all pay attention and let the faster cars through. (I need to pay more attention, too busy concentrating on the road ahead than behind )
I think it's a great event with a chance to meet up with everyone and have some fun with your car, and I hope that everyone can enjoy it ..slow and fast.

Sounds like a double sesh might be a good idea

Okay so i just heard from the people at Lakeside and it looks like the double session is a no go.
Downshift pays $3,500 to allow 100 people onto the track for their double session and any extras are charged $15.

Even if we have 2 sessions split with 25 cars each it works out to $70 each and you would only get 30 minutes.
That is being generous too as most people won't want to pay almost tripple for the same timeframe we already get so it would likely end up costing more.

Bear in mind that the happy laps sessions were originally started as a way to introduce people to the track with the view that once they get good enough and want to drive more seriously, that they can migrate up to sprints or general practice sessions organised by QR/Lakeside.

I'm happy as it is, pushing a car above 110km/h is a change and I don't care too much about traffic when I can pass it on the straight. The cargo van shouldn't have been on the track to put it bluntly though.

@spraycanmansam we had some great laps together, our group was definitely separated from the lotus etc group.

          Hi Clay,

I have another pugger that would like to have a go. Name is "Fish" (Ian Fisher) and he has a 406MI16. Can you put him on the reserve list please.

          Thanks.

Waterboy (very active member from Melbourne) was up for avisit and ended up with a last minute cheap car to attend.

He is looking to move up here permanently and will bring his Mk3 out if he does as the S-Cargo was more just to get him around cheaply for the week.

Well.. I am on the main list now. But depends how my motor goes with building it. If I won't make it, someone can have my spot. If I can make it, its going to be a very scary little car.

                      How about this:

Regardless of whether or not it's your first happy laps, the first time you get to the main straight, floor the throttle. If a faster car can overtake safely, they will. If not, you slow down the next time you're on the main straight and allow them to pass. That way, you've had the "seeing how fast your car can go" experience and you're not being asked to slow down on the straight for every fast-cornering car out there.

                      Make it a rule? Discuss.

The problem with that one is that there are some cars that are slower through corners (Ben's E30, Lito's Mk4 etc) but can belt along the straight really well.
So the problem comes up when the AWD cars and the Lotus have to slow down for a corner as there are there are cars in fornt that can't corner as fast, but then lose the advantage to overtake on the straight when they would normally carry more speed through and overtake easily.

Good idea Alan. Many of the posts here are portraying happy laps as a race event. The last thing we want is for QR to shut these events down.

Thanks for adding me to the reserve list Clay!

Once I get some more confidence in the car it should corner very nicely, wasn't pushing it anywhere near its boundaries, didn't even get the tyres squealing or even a hint of oversteer, was just being carfeul as I'd never driven RWD on the track and its been a good year and a half since I've driven something powerful, just didn't want to hurt the brand new toy haha.

But yeah, down the straights I would normally floor it for the first half or so just to see how hard it pulled compared to the other cars out there, but would back off and let people pass further down, and every few laps go slow the whole length of the straight if there was traffic building up behind me. Hope I wasn't in too many peoples way!
