Secondly, as with any social meet like this there will always be individuals, ala the person who created the 'rat rod' Mk 4 with ILV inside the open doors, the same as people who drastically lower their cars, or instal monster superchargers, or put stickers all over their cars. If it was a dubway sticker on the car, could a Subway store manager get offended? Maybe. Just because it is not as you personally feel 'good taste' doesn't mean that you can jump on here and slander all of us off as a community. How about a hot rod show? Would you be offended the same way with a magical work of airbrushed art on a car that (shock, HORROR!) might show a woman's breasts? Or nightmare inducing skeletons and the walking dead drowning in a bath of hell-fire? Or the women dressed in 50's garb and covered in tattoos?

Just because someone isn't the same as you, doesn't give you the right to jump on your high horse. As Bryce Courtney said, "everybody doesn't have the right to be the same, everybody has the right to be different..."

Think about that the next time you open your trap.

    Rant over.
    Agreed.

Lose your sense of entitlement, Shakey. Nobody has the right to be protected from offensive content and there is absolutely no chance of an event like ILV being able to practice such draconian levels of censorship to accommodate such a narrow point of view.

    • I agree. I'm also gobsmacked. He should remove himself from this forum.

      • You are so wrong. Everyone has the right to be protected from offensive content. That's why we have a censorship media board. That's why we have AO ratings on television. That's why councils have the ability to remove offensive advertising material. That's why we have sexual crime squads with police all over the world. That's why councils have a say about where Brothels are established. You obviosly don't have children to pass comments like this.

Suzie has been to more VW related car shows than most members on this forum. I feel she'd be offended that just because she is promiscuous, she's got to stay home.

What, so just because I'm a moderator, I'm not allowed to be offended by someone's generically insulting, blanket comments? Again, may I point out that I people cannot handle something called "difference of opinion" also called "freedom of speech" then please feel free, report me to the moderation team and let them deal with it.

Please understand that while I do not hold any malice towards your comments, I do take offense on behalf of the greater community however that you label all of us as unproffesional imbeciles, and especially as part of the moderation team, you have called all of us the same for broadcasting the event and supporting it.

It was you, Shakey that chose to promote your dissatisfaction of the event on this forum rather than taking it up with the organisers which in turn becomes an insult to the whole VwWatercooled community whether or not you intended your comments that way, due in part to the vast majority of people who put their cars on public display being members here.

              • No...no assumptions...simply stating the facts. I reckon if you were to put this subject to a panel of 100 average citizens. They would agree that what was displayed on Sunday at Como Park was offensive and unwarranted. Children shouldn't be exposed to this sort of material. I don't care what you guys do in a private meeting. But when you expose the general public to your offensive material then you're pushing your Idiosyncrasies onto others. Something you have no right to do. It's obvious that you care more about displaying your cars with offensive signs and blow up dolls than you do of showing off your cars and allowing the general public to enjoy themselves. Children included.

May I please point out again that this was not a Vw Watercooled event, it was a public event organised by individuals who happened to have their event advertised on here, as well as many other Vw related forums and websites so complaining here rather than to the actual organisers is redundant. Please take the matter up with the organisers.

Just one more thing Bflat. You say nobody has the right to be protected from offensive content. You also mention I have a narrow point of view. I suggest that this page itself is sensored. It's done so because the average, honest & law abiding citizens that began this site however long ago decided that this was the correct and ethical thing to do. That's why I can't type the word **** and ****. At the beginning of this forum..there are rules & regulations. We must abide by them otherwise we could be banned or removed. Just like sensorship rules, Privacy Act and many other rules that we live with everyday. For without them we have KAOS. We have mayhem with poor morals and ethics.

Okay, I'm over agreeing with this guy...I took his comments on board thinking he was entitled to an opinion, but it turns out he's a nutcase.

                        Sorry boys.

And there is the key point.

VWWatercooled are rarely the organisers of events, just one of the public notice boards advertising them.

Shakey is completely entitled to be offended by whatever he feels, these things are about how they are received not about what was intended or how offended or not any other person may feel about the same thing.

But as has been said, these things should have been taken up with the organisers on the day or after the fact if needed.

Voicing his opinion on here is also very reasonable as it may very well cause people to stop and consider the perceptions of others (which it has already done I might add ,see nightphotographers comments). Of course by the same token labelling the whole scene as unprofessional imbeciles isn't the best way to try and make your point.

As with all things there are always one or two people who push the boundaries and this small group do not always reflect the views of the majority.

On a personal note, I'm a very open minded person but I appreciate we don't all like the same things. Through my various roles with work and the different communities I am part of I am very conscious of just how offended people will get at what seem to be the most inane things to others.

I support people who push the boundaries and challenge the status quo. To quote William Pollard; “Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement.” In short the boundaries need to be pushed.

Of course that leads me to probably my favourite quote because it's so relevant to pretty much everything: "Decisions are made by those who show up"
This quote is attributed to Harry Truman (the 33rd US President) was used in the TV show the West Wing, essentially the point is that if you don't show up and get involved you can't expect to effect the outcome.
The club scene in Australia struggles on a good day. There is a lot of long and hard (and thankless) work that goes into setting up and running events (and to add insult to that, when you organise an event you rarely get to actually see the event ). Please join your local club and be part of the organising before and on the day. Present your views and suggest ways to improve the experience.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Unless you are talking about some acronym made by some self righteous mothers groups.

People can do whatever they want with their cars. We don't make out cars the appease other people.

Most of us went to the show to have a good time and have a laugh.

You advertise this show on a public forum. This forum is not a private forum but open to people who are car buffs and enjoy the VW product and it's off shoots (Audi , Skoda etc) The day is promoted as a family day and open to the public...which is held in a park. Como Park to be exact, a public park open to everyone. What peed me off was seeing a dad walking around with his daughter and stumbling across a car near the entrance with a blow up (Doll) sex toy seated in the front passengers seat. You should have seen the poor mans embaressment when asked by his daughter "Dad..what is that?" Now I'm talking about a young 8 year old child here fellas. A young 8 year old innocent girl. Then walking around I see a car with a sticker or motif in the right hand corner of the windscreen clearly visable to everyone that said...."****ing Classic"

If this is your attempt at holding a car show for VW fanatics, then you won't see me at the next one. Unless you remove these Imbeciles and create some professionalism with your meetings...I won't be back. This sort of behaviour is not acceptable especially being held in a public place which can be viewed by young inocent children who have been brought along by mum or dad. I hope this message rings bells to these unprofessional charators!
Sorry but if it was so offensive and you took it to heart so much, wouldn't you have tried to find the owner and ask him to kindly remove/deflate it because there were Children around?
It's like talking behind someone's back. What's happened has happened but did you confront the owner at the time? No. Why kick up a stink now for?

                              • I had a great time apart from the end when someone yelled out some obscene comments to me as I drove out.

Pretty pathetic guys. Not sure what I've done to offend those people, but I apologise if I have. Can't make everyone happy.
