That's pretty much it, my dad and and his mate organized the standard judging. Chris and dean took care of the modified, Chris has a VR6 himself and dean owns a passat VR6 and works at Volkshome, so they know there stuff about modified cars. I was watching the judging for a while and it should only take about 2 minutes to do, its not hard to give parts of the car a score out of 10, and with the amount of cars entered and the time frame to do it in that's all the time they really had.
With the trophies the club looked at last years stats and worked off how many cars entered in each category's, compared to the aircooled it unfortunately meant that watercooled got less category's. Anyone's welcome to come to along to the commitee meetings for next years DOVW and put there 2 cents in, maybe even help out with the judging, one thing i've seen over the last couple of DOVW, you cant make everyone happy, at the end of the day its just a show and i look at it more as a time to catch up with people and that one time a year i clean my car properly haha.

Very true words there. The reality is that it takes nearly 12 months of planning to make this show happen. i know this because i have been on the organising committee for the past three years. I have done so to make sure Audi's could be shown @ the day of the Volkswagen.I know we (Audis') only represent a small part of the day, but at least it is better than not being able to show our cars at all.

I just want to add that I am not a member of VWCCV but they have been very supportive of getting our brand of VAG cars @ there show. I am very sure if a few of you Watercooled boys/girls stepped up to the line and offered some support to the day, then you may be able to help the boys judging cars and getting a more fairer result.

In saying that , it was a fantastic day which any VAG fan should be happy to be a part of. bring on 2012 and the SEDF!!

        • One thing I would really love to see at next years event would be the Audi section right along side the watercooled VW section. I dont understand why the big separation.

              +1

it was bizarre.... watercooled guys talking about the obvious segregation between air cooled and watercooled, as apparently demonstrated by the multitude of air cooled categories and then the non existent watercooled categories...

oh well. i pay my $25 to have a chin wag, check out what's new on fellow watercoolers cars, and just generally be a bit stupid... same as last year.

                • FLAUNTT, I think the Audi guys have got the right idea by doing there own judging/trophy's, It means no complaining really. Maybe the watercooled guys can go down this path too?? I know the nationals in sydney had peoples choice for watercooled but i find this just turns into a popularity contest.

                  • The guy at the gate tried to tell me I wasn't allowed to enter haha. Had to tell him to walk to the back of my car and look at the vw badge.

I find that near every show has limited watercooled support. But I do agree it's because there aren't as many watercooled guys out there who are a part of club veedub and volunteer to help out at shows and stuff. That's the only way we are gonna get more recognition amongst the watercooled folk.

I can understand why there arent many watercooled categories. Yes we got a reasonable turnout. But of the people that turned up, how many actually entered the judging? You cant have a category for each mark of golf if there is only 1 car entered in each category.
I think most of us use these shows as an opportunity to catch up with old mates moreso than compete. Unfortunately that is going to have an adverse effect on the people that are actually competing.

                        • It would be nice to one day get all of the watercooled cars together. I have suggested it in the past but the layout sort of doesnt accomodate for it. There seams to be representatives from rat section (Melburg Luft) and Syncro guys as well as obviously members from the VWCCV at most DOTVW committee meetings. It may be time for one of the Watercooled boys to step up and voice the same opinion as I am pitching. Two voices are louder than one.

I admit that the day is more about the cars than the trophies. And it is quite a challenge to just judge 24 Audi's than to do alot more VW's. I will be sure to pass on all of your opinions on to the rest of the people on the committee, but I am sure a few of them will have already read most of the comments.

                          • What about something where all the brands on this forum are catered for, perhaps various dealers could get involved too.

Anyway my initial post was getting at how I was surprised not to see any mention of this in the Mk6 Golf section (or perhaps a Global Announcement) or even in anyone's signature
