Yes indeed David's 2.0T dyno chart blew my mind - it's a shame my own car wasn't running up to scratch (isn't that ironic) but at least all my customers cars were running great.
Also looking forward to taking Adam's pog up to the next level once he gets his supporting modifications.
All in all, it was a great day - I can't help but feel that all the all wheel drive dyno results were all quite low, but at least the comparisons can be consistent amongst the front drivers and the amongst the AWD.
For instance, there were a couple of B6 1.8TQ's which both posted healthy, smooth looking charts/graphs, but the figures were simply much lower. One of them was an APR Stage 2/2+ with ER front mount, exhaust, etc. which got 103kw which isn't a bad result, but considering Stage 1 polos were doing 115kw, stage 2+ polos doing 140kw; it can't *only* be down to AWD drivetrain losses. The other 1.8TQ had a frankenturbo K04 with a range of supporting mods, also well tuned with a great looking curve, but pulled only 130kw.
Furthermore, the black B5 S4 with a GIAC chip and exhaust pulled 153kW; even Hyper1's Stage3 S4, whilst it got almost 240kW at the wheels is an impressive figure; I was expecting to see much higher, given the performance level of the car.
Regardless, as mentioned, the results seemed consistent amonst the front drives, and amongst the AWD's, so the results are still useful for analysing.
I would not say they were low.
some cars may have had some issues resulting in a low number.
there was one 2.0T A3 there that dyno show less power than stock,
having a quick look with vcds it showed there was a boost problem logged in ecu, so that car has to be looked at.
I got there a little late after a long night working in the workshop trying to finnish a mk5 golf that would would have put down a good figure. better than deans, but just ran out of time and was really tired. So i missed the giac s4 that run, but that is to lower figure, so i would say it has a issue as well.
It is on record the giac tuned k04 cars get high 200kw runs.
B5 S4's are a problematic car, having played with them over 10 years there are a number of issues with them, common for O2 and EGT sensors to fail, which limits the power, as well has the engine bay runs very hot due to lack of space and air flow which in-turn affects various hoses etc to split etc.
But anyone experienced in these cars should know all this.
Allen turned up in his R35 and his figures were very close to what he was expecting running a very conservative tune, it is capable of over 400kw at wheels, he has also recently got a TTS that has also been giac flashed we were hoping he would bring both cars, but HPF set a limit of 35 cars.
Many dyno days when people get less than expected figures start blaming the dyno, it is what it is. Or there is a problem with the car.
FYI Deans car, engine and turbo is all stock and wastegate has never been fiddled with. His mods are simple bolt on mods with GIAC extreme tune.
All GIAC exteme tuned cars that came with K04 standard from factory have gotten over 200kw ATW.
If anyone thinks and i have had comments passed on to me, like its not a k04, the engine is rebuilt, its got aftermarket cams etc, I guarantee those claims are all false.
Dean has been running the giac sofware for over 25,000kms now. His car has been on several dyno's around melb and all the readings are within 5%

Yup, what Lucas said! If anyone wants to come and inspect my car to ensure it is infact a k04 turbo, your more than welcome to.
Id be a little dissapointed with 220 for a gt28 or gt30Genuine VW Parts Importer | Navigation | Bluetooth |sigpicRepairs | Lighting | Coding | Programming |Cameras

Its obvious that the GIAC tunes are getting the best results out there.
Dean's is a great example of this!

Definitely not "blaming" anything; at the end of the day, a number is just a number, but when the front drive results are consistently much higher than their AWD cousins despite slower real-life acceleration, then it's definitely worth discussing, no?
As mentioned, both B6 A4's there were tuned well and had healthy smooth looking power curves, but absolute figures of 103kW(K03, APR Stage 2/2+) and 130kw(franken K04, stage "2+/3"?) respectively, when you have polo 1.8T K03's pulling 140kW, it definitely makes you wonder. I can't help but feel if you put both on the road, the 1.8T K04 would still outrun all the 4cyl K03 cars there on the day despite lower figures.
All the torsen quattro cars seemed to stack up correctly, relative to each other; ie. with the 1.8TQ franken K04 car pulling 20kW less than a K03 giac tuned B5 S4(which appeared to run smoothly/fine throughout), which was then 40kW less than a stock B7 RS4; and then another 40-45kw gap to healthy running K04 tuned B5 S4 - these are reasonable approximations of their relative performance. If 1/4 mile databases are anything to go by, 1.8TQ K04's run high 13's, B5 S4 tuned K03's run low 13's, B7 RS4's run 13s flat/high 12's, and B5 S4 tuned K04's run low 12's/high 11's.
Dean's GTI pirelli is fantastically tuned; and the curves prove it - but I can't picture pulling away from a B7 RS4 or running low 12's?VWWC Members - 2018 Special - ECU & DSG Remaps

No idea why youre being so defensive. No-one has implied that Deans car would ever pull a low 12 have they? Thats pretty hard to do in a fwd car.. I reckon it would be pretty close to the RS4 though if it was launched well... But then we all know that launching a fwd car isnt particularly easy but i think breaking into the 12s should be possible.
Anyways.. who gives a stuff who has the fastest car.. The day is a bit of fun and a chance to check out who has what modifications and eat a damn sausage or 3. I could understand comparing similar cars to eachother but I have no idea what tree youre barking up.

It's interesting to discuss it anyway; not being defensive at all - forgive me if you think I'm "barking up" some tree; might help if you read over my points - there was no aggression or emotions; just purely objective discussion regarding the raw data. It was a great day - nice to see people's faces for a change! Can't help being the analytical person that I am, that's all - if none of us cared about looking at the data then none of us would pay to put our cars on the dyno, surely. =)VWWC Members - 2018 Special - ECU & DSG Remaps

Let's just stop all this, John, let me know when suits, we will organise a night for the drag strip, we will see the MPH and that will be all that matters. IF you really want to compare..Genuine VW Parts Importer | Navigation | Bluetooth |sigpicRepairs | Lighting | Coding | Programming |Cameras
