The carpet has warn through at my left foot between the foot rest and plastic from the centre console/dash. What have people done previously to fix this up?

I had some boxes coated with a heavy wax on the carpet in the boot. After taking the boxes out, a whitish wax residue remains. The carpet had been treated with a water repellant some weeks prior to the boxes going into the boot.
