Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • How to remove box wax from carpet

I had some boxes coated with a heavy wax on the carpet in the boot. After taking the boxes out, a whitish wax residue remains. The carpet had been treated with a water repellant some weeks prior to the boxes going into the boot.
Advice on how to remove this wax would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try putting a kitchen paper towel on them and using a heat gun or hair dryer to melt the wax and soak it into the paper

You're a genius! It works but I recommend covering the carpet and boxes in something eg an old sheet to avoid the problem.
The wax did not melt till over 55C so it was not pleasant work. The first step was to cover an area with the kitchen paper then use directed heat to a patch and roll with a small roller eg dowel or chrome pipe a number of times. Finally heat the carpet and scrub with the paper. Discard papers frequently.
Incidentally, the carpet was sprayed with 301 high tech fabric water repellant ( bought from car care, Ashfield.

An iron on low heat and some thick brown wrapping paper does the the job perfectly.

Wasted your money on carpet treatment. Never works properly Had a whole house done once. Think it attracted spills rather than stopped them
