Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Vento rear parcelshelf carpet

    Hey guys

The rear parcelshelf carpet (where the rear speakers were) is beyond knackered and am wanting to try and re-furb it. Since it's not really a parcel shelf like the ones on the MK3 Golfs (and other hatchbacks for that matter) where you can remove it easily, I'm going to try and refurb it by laying down some new carpet.

First question would be, would anyone know how to remove the shelf and
Second question would, how does one go about refurbing the carpet and is it easy? I found some decent carpet from Bunnings for cheap that might work but not sure how to go about it or the process?

The shelf can slide out. Fold the seats forward and it slides in toward the cabin. It's a delicate process since everything in Mk3s is held together by Elizabethan plastic clips. There are DIY guides around, like on vw vortex. The carpet is a separate layer to the shelf itself so once you have it out you can peel the carpet off and make a template with it. That shelf was just sprayed black because it was a horrid faded grey from the old interior.

Cheers Joe. Yeah the carpet is starting to flake and leaves a sticky residue and weird smell. Tried to use carpet cleaner but then it all just lifted right off...

I'll have a look on Vortex
