Recommendation of Good Mechanic around Melbourne Eastern Suburb

Hi All

I have a 2012 Mk6 Golf GTD and just done a 75k scheduled service with FT VW dealer (used to call Burwin VW dealer before moving). Had very bad experience with them on my last service after they move to the new address. The mechanic scratched my window tint and covered up by winding down the window when handing over the car. I didn't realise the scratches until I reached home and called up the service manager but he denied everything without offering to have a look.

Anyway, two items that found need to be fixed during the scheduled service. Timing Belt and Water Pump(slight leak). I am not taking my car back to FT VW dealer for the repair. Can anyone suggest a good mechanic around the eastern suburbs?

I read some post that people recommending VolksPower in Burwood but the review is mix match. Some people critic that VolksPower rip off their customers big time.

Another vote for Volkswerke here, they have done our Van and were booked to do my Golf as well but thanks to being sick I missed that and have to re-book... which reminds me! I have to re-book that

+1 for Andrew at Volkservice.

We just got a 7 year / 105,000Km service on my wife's Mk5 2.0 TDI and that included timing belt kit, water pump and coolant.
The car also needed a cam position sensor and he got that done at the same time.

We saved over $500 on the prices quoted by VW dealers etc, and their prices didn't include the cam sensor.

As mpearce38 mentioned he uses genuine VW OE parts and as an experienced VW qualified technician, you can't get much better than that!

Your timing belt needing replacing is a bit strange as VW recommend replacing them at 7 years or 105,000Kms.

When servicing them they don't start checking them until 90,000Km so it sounds like either your timing belt has failed prematurely or the dealer is trying to get money when the belt is okay!

If your car has always been serviced by VW dealers, I would be asking VW Australia to get the belt replaced as a goodwill warranty gesture at no charge to you and you could pay for a new water pump only!

Worth a try.

I am not too sure about the timing belt as well. I used to serviced my car at Burwin VW which is not too bad and don't have too much issue. However, since they relocated the car show room and services to merge with Holden services centre up Ferntree Gully road, I found the workmanship straight go down the hill and the service manager that explain to me in the end is just not helpful.
