Aside from the dsg issues does the car give you trouble otherwise? I'm guessing your car was one of those in the recall earlier this year for mechatronic replacement?

My air conditioner blower has problems too but it only happens after continuous use (like 2+ hours continuous driving/aircon use). It's like the blower flaps all close even if the aircon is switched on. Anyway, no one could fix it.

That's not what the saying "at the end of the day" is used for.

At the end of the day, a few million cars are getting recalled for DSG problems which have inconvenienced and infuriated thousands. We don't all go and say "oh yeah, VW makes quality cars and have been for years". Again, wrong use of the saying.

"At the end of the day" is like saying "all things considered". I think it's a fair comment myself to say that all things considered VW have been making quality car for years. I was insinuating that perhaps their reputation shouldn't be thrown out the window because of a major recall concerning a relatively new technology in a production car. If the recall doesn't fix the issue then I'd have to reconsider my opinion for sure...

Certainly, the perceived quality and build construction of their vehicles are generally sound.

However, as far as sheer mechanical reliability is concerned, the group still have some work to do.

Looking at the overall picture, they (like most European manufacturers - BMW and Mercedes included) generally trail the Japanese in that respect - or never really caught up with them once they took over, depending on one's perspective.

I have just had the June recall completed on my car (118TSI+DSG7).

Mechatronics and DSG oil was changed. I've had the chance to briefly speak to one of the VW mechanics and he said that the original June recall included the DSG oil change to mineral and it has always been part of the recall from the start. This oil is apparently supposed to last for the life of the gearbox.

Now here's the thing... if it's included in the original recall then why issue a separate recall? It's looking like some people are just getting oil changes without new mechatronics (ie. Nov recall but no June recall). Would that be wise? The synthetic oil may have already damaged their mechatronics but only the oil's getting changed?

There are people like Candyman who live in places like the Sunshine Coast. Doubt traffic is anything like Sydney, Tokyo or Beijing traffic.

Before that, I used to do 5 hours daily commuting in Sydney traffic - two DSG vehicles. - 2 1/2 hours each way (for about 15 years). One of the reasons we moved actually.

Edit - actually, I had more grief with the company Commodores autos and the XT I used to own doing that commute. That 4 speed in the XT was crap. A good versatile vehicle though

I know you cannot comprehend how people can feel that way for your beloved, but it's true. Yes, there are people who dislike VW. We exist!

I dislike VW as a company actually, have said so a number of times.

As for "beloved", sarcasm doesn't sit well with you does it

The wife and kids are the only ones that get beloved but if you have a need to find that in a car, maybe that is the issue

How does that translate to me having that need? It's fanboys who seem to treat VW as their entire world. Not sure how you came to that conclusion. I am actually disgusted at how much people love VW.

I don't want to love a car. I just want one that only needs to be taken to a dealership for servicing. NOTHING MORE.

You can take that as something negative. But yes, I am attention seeking, but not from VW lovers. My posts are more for people deciding whether to buy VW or not.

I'm more active on WP, especially on "what car should i buy?" or "should i buy a Golf?" threads. Obviously trying to get people not to buy VW. VW has actually already lost hundreds of thousands of dollars from my advice alone (like real people I know). I've swayed workmates, relatives and close friends from buying it. Some were already in the final stages of buying a Golf. Thanks to me they didnt

So yes, in a way you can say attention seeking. I want to get attention of those looking to buy VW's.
