Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • DSG Recall - Anyone already done it?

If so how long did it take? Did they give you a loan car? Is the car any 'better' after it all? Cheers

I'm still waiting - got the first letter saying there would be another letter.

VAG need to find ~30,000 of the mechatronic units to fix all the affected cars in AUS, so it might take a while.

I don't think the car will work any "better" with the new unit, but the part is less likely to fry and force you into a false neutral.

Chances are they will do the older ones first as there may be a greater likelihood that they will suffer any problems before the newer ones.

I would hope they at least prioritise people who have the longest running issues with their dealers. If you have been having issues since for years, why should someone with no issues get priority if they don't have a problem, simply because their car was built the day before you?

How would you know one way or the other? We have no idea how they prioritise the replacements. Could be by state then dealer?!?

I just phones the dealer and booked it in like any other service. (I then got the 2nd letter a couple of days after.) I've had it replaced before - it'll drive differently for a week and then go back to normal as it adapts. You'll only notice an improvement if your current one is bad (jerky, etc).

city stop-start traffic. add to the fact that our summers are like, detrimentally hotter than other markets (united arab emirates, singapore, turkey, south africa, southern states in usa e.g. alabama).... wow. world of difference, temperature wise (not @ you, but rather @ VWA... i'll probably get a letter from a lawyer soon, haha).

He asked if he would notice any immediate difference. I've answered from direct experience since I had mine replaced under warranty almost a year ago.

I've not said i know anything, simply that I would hope VWA know, and this time try to act with a bit more appreciation for owners and the media coverage.
One way to know would be if someone with an MY12 comes in and says they had no problems and had the recall anyway, before owners who have had documented issues. It'll be guess work in part for us forum monkeys, but Not for VWA and their owner and vehicle data.

did they say how long it would take to repair and if you would get a loan car if more than a day?

That's why I said "how would you know one way or the other". You would think that ascending VIN number would be the easiest to mail merge

Had it done today on my 2010 Golf. I haven't received the second letter yet, but when I had made the booking for scheduled service a month ago, I requested for the work to be done. When I spoke to the dealer yesterday though, they said if I've not received the letter than they won't necessarily have the part as supposedly VWA allocates them specifically to a vehicle. It was pretty much an all day job including the scheduled service. I dropped it off around 8:30 and they were still working on it when I got there at 5. Was told they had to load new software for it.

Wife's car went in on Wednesday (Skoda Octavia 118 ) to get clutches done and 3 service campaigns, they said if the parts for the recall were in stock they would do that too. 2 days for it all as that is how long it takes to do clutches got call Thursday arvo before I went to dealer to pick up and they said still not done due to staff absence would be done by Friday (today). Got call 2pm today and they said the guy is still sick so will need to get car next week (hopefully Monday)
I'm not complaining, they always give me a loan car and this this time it's a MY13 Audi Q3 so I said take as long as they need. Q3 is reeeeaaal nice to drive, quattro system on an Octy would be nice!!!
