One guy on ozaudi was saying his mate went to BMW and was ignored and then went to Mercedes and bought 3 high end cars and took the proof of purchase to the BMW dealer who then offer a very good deal but he rejected it
Goes to show you that you don't know who your rejecting
I knew another guy who was an engineer and wanted to buy a new car. Wandered into a dealership with $60k CASH in his pocket in a fat envelope, dressed in his overalls as he was on his way back from a site.
The salesman smirked at him and said something along the lines of, "no way you can afford one of these mate" so he took the cash out of his envelope, slapped the salesman across the face with it and walked out.

Why would anyone walk with that sort of cash? And even if you really wanted to buy a car on the spot, you wouldn't get it that same day. You'd still pay a deposit then in full when you pick up.
Sort of the same with me though. Don't worry I get the same thing all the time. I look like a poor Asian always looking for a bargain. Little do they know that I'm in a high paying job and and grew up in a comfortable environment (dad was a CIO of a multinational American company).

An engineer coming back from a site with $60k cash in his pocket.
Clearly not a very intelligent engineer (and likely one in jail from assault charges)
Good story though

Today I was talking to one of the lads I work with about new cars. He told me he went into a Toyota dealer in Sydney's west at the weekend to drive the 86.
The dealer told him he wanted $1000 up front to test drive and would only return the deposit if he could give a good enough excuse not to buy the car!
Needles to say he told him to shove it and left. We tried another dealer over lunch today and were told the wait is 8 to 12 months for a chosen spec car.
Looks like the supply demand rule is turning some Toyo reps into a bunch of tossers. Suppose they have had to wait a while for anything worth crowing about!
Glad I ordered the Polo as the wait is

I know quite a few engineers who are like that - not really giving a fck what they wear, and when (joggers and a t-shirt, etc).
To be honest, I think they earn too much money (especially the ones in mining or consultancy) to really give a fck what others think about how "pretty" they are when they go in to deal with some random $70k/year salesman for a test drive.
It's funny - you even see them dressed in fading polo shirts and weathered jeans when they walk into Singaporean banks' "preferred customer" lounges to talk Cayman-style banking...
Certainly intelligent enough, and I really dont think some little pissant in a roger david suit who thinks he's justified in judging people... I dont think that a car "salesman" like that would even register on the engineer's radar...
