Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Balance is something the FWD Golf doesn't have.

Like I mentioned before, when I had my R35, I had more fun going slow in a friend's Boxster S. But not all cars are like that. I didn't have as much fun with the S2000. I am reserving judgement till I get to drive one, but a couple of friends have test driven it and they are full of glowing reviews as well.

They can mask it with all the reviews and pretending like its all about the fun of driving it but if i can only enjoy a car on a race track then its a bit ****.
I don't think that this is one of the cases where a car makers wants to make tribute to a classic as much as it lets make a lot of money by putting together a cheap car and masking the ****ness with "sportiness"

I had the ZZT231 Celica. Now that was just a silly car with a heritage badge on it. It was all looks and not that much go

I had a go with the original Celica a friend of mine had. Now that was another slow but fun car. I just didn't connect as well because I thought the gearbox was a bit clunky.

          lol.

This is pretty low power for $30k!

I'll stick with wanting an original!

If it does handle as well as people say it does, im sure full bolt on turbo kits will be available soon if not already, building a quick car for 35k. Sure if you spent that modifying something else you could build something quicker, and I personally would ever own one, but I can see the appeal for someone who wants a new car which can be a bit of fun in that price range. What else (new) is there in that price range which is quicker and rwd?

Brand new they're another 15k more (from my car sales search which took literally 20 seconds, so could be wrong, I really dont follow new car prices as I'm not in the market for one )...

Not sure why I'm defending this car to be honest though, it is an underpowered ugly thing haha. Just saying I can see why people would want one

I thought the BRZ in silver looked like crap. I could see the Hyundai references. But I thought the Toyota's subtle honeycomb ish motif looked quite nice with a red paint job.

Granted I don't find my Golf or Tiguan or my last few rides to be particularly pretty either in my book, pretty is a Ferrari 430 Scuderia or a Maserati GranTurismo

In hindsight thinking about it (unless a 200kw/400NM 86 arrives) the performance for a $35K 86 is rubbish.

Team_v's $35K Tiguan (which incidentally has 200kw/400NM) will run rings around it ..... even on the track. Anybody going to regular QLD track events will have seen this particular Tiguan in action so no BS .... !

Having said that, the 9n3 GTI's hammer around quite well too.

My main concern over the 86 is that they are calling it a sports car but it doesn't handle as well (tail happy) or go as quick (NA engine) than most of the other cars it is compared to.

To be fair, someone with stretched tyres isn't the target market. They want people who actually care how a car drives. Not just how it looks.
