Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

*thad*, yes mate, I went to Cottesloe Cycles on Saturday to have a look at an Apollo Alfa, it has the same geometry as the Allegro. My wife thought it was a nice looking bike and it was really light. I can get a good deal on the Allegro too - well at least I THINK it's a good deal!

bigfoot, provided the coverage doesn't clash with anything we watch on ABC we'll be there!

Road: 2004 Trek 2300 with Ultegra 10, Fulcrum R1's and Michelin Krylion Carbon tyres.

Off Road: 2008 Mongoose Teocali Super

The roadie has done between 20,000 and 25,000km's but very sparodic. I generally take 2 weeks off in Jan each year and can do 100 - 150km's a day in that time. I can also go for 2 or 3 months without riding due to work and family getting in the way. I got the Mongoose in Nov 08 and have done all of about 200km most of which has been on the road. I bought it to muck around on and ride with my wife but we never get a chance to ride with no kids around.

Is Cottesloe Cycles the place that doesn't have any bikes in the shop? They measure you up and then order the custom frame from Italy. There's a shop in Cott that does that anyways.

No, it's a very small shop, but there were bikes inside and out. It's Cottesloe Cycles on Station Street. There's a sister shop in Carine, Carine Cycles, but that was too far for me to travel to from Como just to look at bikes. One of the guys I work with recently organised a group buy for Apollo Evolution MTBs from Carine Cycles. He got in touch with the owner on my behalf and a deal was struck.

I had been to my local cycle shop who also sell Apollo bikes, but they failed to follow up on my enquiry about the Allegro, so they lost the sale.

Im still finding it hard to get good service from the bike shops i visist. The bike i got cost around 2500 and when i asked about a part from the shop i got it from, they wanted to cahrge me 28 plus postage were i could get it from a shop in sydney for 9 inc postage. Not asking for much just a little service with a smile and somepeople wonder why the internet sales are going up.

I picked up my 2011 Apollo Allegro on Saturday. I would have preferred the bike in Charcoal colour, but I was told Apollo sent the wrong colour. It doesn't bother me all that much, it's a nice bike.

Went for a ride up to Applecross with the missus. This bike wants to go fast! Here are the specs for the Allegro. Wouldn't mind a rear mudguard some time.

Thats a good looking flat bar mate.

In regards to mud guards check out Zefal. They do some low profile slim fit light weight guards for a good price.

Im from Victoria so who knows what the future will bring. They do have shop rides but its mostly road (im xc/dh and getting into 4x) like i said thought the original shop i got the bike from would be good as i spent time with them desiding on the bike which for me was a big chunk of money but i get better service from shops that i have not got anything from yet.

I do alot of online shopping too but i use TBSM (can not recomend these guys enough) and Cell, both australian.

Its a good looking bike i may see you out on the bike tracks (mine is bright blue with white Giant stickers) have yet to see any other in that colour scheme.

i try but it's a bit hard when they charge a minimum of 2 and 3 times the price of what you can get online!

i still go to the local shop for servicing and anything that needs to be tried on for size before purchase (shoes, shorts etc)
