Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thanks *thad*, Canning Bridge cycles is little more than 10 minutes walk from where I live and they too stock a nice range of cycles. However, next time I'm in the locality, I'll check out TBE in Belmont. Something which occasionally bothers me is my right wrist will hurt when I'm cycling, I may have some displaced bones in there, so a more upright cycling position will probably benefit me. Also the front suspension of the Apollo could absorb some of the jarring.

I'll post pics when I get whichever bike I finally decide on.

If thats the case go the 'mountain bike' style and get the little bars put on the end which will take the weight off your arms/wrist/hands.

It took me about a month and a least 3 test rides (on the same bike let alone others) of the bike before i decided, could be happier now.

I've been looking at the Apollo Allegro, it's a fine looking bike but it has real skinny tyres, they're Kenda Kwest 700 x 28c. I have absolutely no idea what those figures mean and I would prefer a slightly wider tyre. What's the width of a 28c compared with, say a 32c? I don't want MTB width tyres but I don't really want ultra-skinny road-racing ones either. I've searched through the Kenda tyres web site but it was of little help. Would it be correct to assume that 28c=28mm and 32c=32mm?

correct - 28 would be the widest you could reasonable fit on a 700c wheel. plus any wider and they're likely to rub on the frame.

28 is plenty wide for crusing around on - i run 23

Thanks bigfoot, I appreciate the response. Nice pics of the Aussie cycle team ^ I saw on the news that Anna Meares had scored gold in Appeldoorn. Sadly during the AFL season all other sports cease to exist so far as most TV news coverage is concerned. Thank goodness for SBS.
