Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Cash for clunkers schemes usually are only good for lining the pockets of korean car manufacturers. More pissing money up against a wall in my opinion.

Yep. Although the question in my mind is how many people who are driving olds clunkers can afford new cars?...
Having said that, nothing to stop you picking up a sub $500 POS just to trade it in

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I will continue to drive my mk1 around because me driving it uses less energy and waste than buying a new car and having it made and run.....

F#$% your cash I'll keep my clunker!

The whole scheme is rubish, save the environment my ass.
Driving an old car is alot more environmentally friendly then driving a new car. Sure some old cars will use more petrol and have more emissions but think about what it takes to build a new car. You can drive a VN 5L for 10years and in that time it still wont be as harmfull to the environment as building a prius is.

This is from memory of about 20 years ago when working in Malaysia.
Singapore required a bond on all new car purchases.
This bond is returned when car destroyed (Or dismantled?) before set time period.
I think not allowed to be resold over border? eg, required certificate to say destroyed.
This was one way to keep Singapore looking clean and tidy.

I think its great .... if Labor gets in (and i won't vote for them) I'll definately be using it .... be buying a $500 clunker off ebay or similar and trading it in on the new Van in November.

Don't even want any trade money from the dealer, just the money from Jules ....

When they (Labor) are this stupid, you just have to abuse it ....

The green guidelines should be applied in this order

                    1. Reduce - the number of vehicles in use
                    2. Re -use - what is already available
                    3. Re-cycle - as the last resort
