nice work mate, keep the updates coming. it's the little touches that make a car build stand out...

those mcgard wheel bolts are a quality piece of kit, i had some on my bimmer. i've just ordered the oem audi covers to fit over my original bolts, hoping they are pretty close to the dark grey wheel colour that i had the oettinger wheels sprayed in...

i hope you don't mind but i want to know if you have any tips for installing the shifter bushes, i'll flick you a pm, cheers...

A bit of dump pipe fun on a Tuesday night.....well there was nothing on TV to watch

Removing the EuroJet 3" dump pipe off my friends Mk5 GTI and refitting the stock down pipe.

This EuroJet dump pipe is about 2.5yrs old, but still in very good working order and has plenty of life left in it. My mate sold it to me for $400 so i decided to take it.

Pics below are removing it from his car. I will clean it up and fit it to my car this wkend.

Well what a bastard that was. Somehow managed to break 1x turbo mounting stud and strip another 2x of them. What a pain in the arse - luckily i have a nut & bolt warehouse close by, and was able to get new studs and nuts for the turbo.

Anyway - downpipe and intake are on. Sounds great and has some more GO. Intake fits very well and looks great.

Yep i had the DP off a few months ago when i knocked out the top cat. I must have done up the nuts too tight or something when i put it back on?? Who knows - i cant think of any other reason. Car only has 59,000km on it, so its not like they were horrible and rusty or anything.

Couple of little updates for the GTI this week:

LED reverse light from Bold Sport (much brighter than the stock bulb, ill be buying 2x more of these for my R).

                  R8 oil cap.

Nice Lucas. Any bulb warnings for this? Coding changes required? Or did it come with a resistor/adapter?

Hey Adam - the Bold Spot LED's are all good quality and error free. No coding needed. No resistor/adapter needed. The only downside is that it does a quicker flicker on startup as the car does a bulb check.

                      • Mk7 Climatronic unit.

that's very interesting and looks awesome. was it a one for one replacement (i.e all the electronics work?)?
btw, how are you finding that Unitronic CAI? i'm interested to know if the noise coming from it is quite loud... like some of the other 'open' intakes i've seen?

                        • Nice to know it's interchangeable, although personally I preferred the Mk6 look with the temp shown in the dial and general button layout

                          • Yes everything works fine - all the buttons and functions work as per the old Mk6 Climatronic - albeit with a more streamlined look and feel. The Mk7 Climatronic layout is much easier to use/adjust while driving.

I did the same upgrade in my Golf R at the start of the year so i already knew it fitted and worked fine.

The Unitronic intake is really well made and fits brilliantly. Really happy with it. It sounds nice but not too loud (mabye 10-15% louder than an APR Carbonio when you put your foot down). Its not as loud as the intake i have on my Golf R.

Each to their own of course Ryan, but personally i find the new Mk7 Climatronic layout much more streamlined (less buttons/less cluttered), easier to use and more modern - and the temp adjustment allows 0.5 degree temp changes too. I think if you get to have a play with one you will want to buy it

Cheers mate. Autosol metal polish and 0000 grade steel wool (very fine and doesn't scratch) and a good 10mins for each tip and they will look like new again
