      Hey Craig,

You should be fine with your as didn't they fix the issue for 2012 onwards?

And you have (D) suffix, so does that mean yours is not affected?

I finally see my new van late next week, so i'll get to see what my engine code is as mines still the 132kw Bi-turbo Euro 5..

Only time will tell that they have fixed it with the "D" suffix. An EGR with a "C" suffix still suffers the same problem.

This is an interesting read , the old subject of bigger cubes being better than small engines The age of smaller engines may be over

Every one with 1/2 the brain ishould be able to figure out that with the current technology what is available, that the smaller engine has to work harder and will wear out much sooner.

Is it really working harder, or have the boffins found ways through technology to achieve performance figures more effeciently?

I am not so sure if you work out the engines ability and the load to carry logic dictates that a smaller engine even with Turbos will be placed under more duress when loaded up with goods etc . I know from having my 97 T4 2.5 petrol back to back with my current 2005 T5 2.0 petrol the pulling power and performance is like chalk and cheese . T4 would eat the T5 for lunch and spit it out easily . T4 specs 115*PS (85*kW; 113*bhp) @ 4,500
                    200*N·m (148*lbf·ft) @ 2,200
                    1997–2003
                    T5
                    116*PS (85*kW; 114*hp)
                    170*N·m (125*lb·ft)
So the 2.0 has 30nm less torque but same 85 KW output so why does the 2.0 struggle against the T4 , My sons T4 now sold when I did a comparison walked all over my T5 .

That extra 30Nm can move a lighter bus much more easily.

I noticed that the just announced New D Max has gotten a larger 3 litre Turbo Diesel instead of the smaller 2.5 Litre for the Europeans.

The old engines were 2.8 litre if i recall so it is a small increase, but heading the right way.

I do think, that the tech guys are quite amazing to get the amount of power out of the smaller diesels, but i think that durability is sacrificed in the process, regardless of the materials used, pressure brings out any failures within the material, sooner than later.

Less stress = longer life, well in theory

Be nice to see a small V6 turbo diesel 3 litre framed in that front end of the Transporter.

Well they had a V6 petrol one in the T4 but probably due to the surge in diesel popularity at the time it was dropped , I do believe it was a bit thirsty on fuel .

                            Not emissions friendly, either.

The dealership just sent me my engine number it is a CFC engine then followed by numbers, i thought it would be a CFA motor, but it doesn't say what version.

Where do you find out that Info?

I pick it up on Tuesday after a process lasting almost 7-8 months.

But to an ordering issue, which wasn't my fault, the lift for the van won't be here for another 2 months

So i have a perfectly good van sitting in the carpark for 2 months until I can use it
