Yes have done that same route a few times and yes the DSG just totally gets confused a real pisser in my opinion , too many gears to self select . What they need to do is fit a camera so the gearboxes brain can see where we are going , same thing for roundabouts and intersections it cant be always relied on to get the correct gear . I've had plenty of practice spraying contact on laminate from my days as a cabinetmaker, so i should pick up the carpet laying pretty quick, i've got a mid roof, so ill have to make my own roof liner substrate for that. (the mid roof is plastic with plastic roof support bars!!)

7 gears is too many, i'm going to have to drive it as a manual during the run in period, it just likes to stay in high gears and lug the engine.

Took my Van for its first Run-In drive yesterday, up through Mount Glorious over to Esk to Kilcoy and back to Brisbane via Mount Mee.

That mapping would help if set up right, as it doesn't seem to pre-empt anything..

i was really disappointed, i was hoping it better than a CVT.

I noticed when going downhill it didn't drop down quick enough for my liking, people must go through brake pads quick if they don't drive it like a manual.

You do get used to the gears, as when they won't select the right one. Normally if going through the twisties at Nebo and so on I normally stick it sport or manual select that way it won't ring it's neck on certain slopes.

Bryn did you go for the bi-turbo?

Quite the opposite best if you DONT allow it to stay in top gear too long causing the engine to bog down , best to drive it fairly normally without carrying any huge weight . These days most manufacturers build engines with enough tolerance to allow for normal driving from scratch , it saves the customer from having to pussy around with the first few thou km .

Hey Craig,

Yeah, mine is the My17 Euro 5 Bi-Turbo, with the CFCA engine, don't know which suffix, but i'm assuming that the have resolved the issue for my version, i'll find out in a few years

I'm sure after a while ill get use to it, just early days, and i was expecting it to be smarter than a CVT.

I might give a run hopefully next weekend through Samford and back up to Brisbane via Mt Nebo to get a bit more load on the engine, as i got a highway run up to Coolum to get the RIB fitted this week.

Open the bonnet look for the dark oil canister just to the right of centre, you should see a Little sticker about 11/2 inch by 1/2inch with writing on it. That's your EGR plate it should be a "D" suffix.

Im not sure if came across that i would run it in high gear and let the engine lug along, i know that isn't the best thing, thats why i'm trying to load the engine under varied engine load through the hills.

I just noticed that the DSG likes to go straight up to D7 on flat straights and lug the engine, i have had to drop it down to stop this from happening.

The van is empty, no heavy weight loads for now, until i fit it out as a camper.

Your right with the engines these days are more refined, which is why they can get more power out of them and the run in is less important than dates gone by.

But i've alway run in my new cars this way, the first few weeks are drives through the "hills" to vary the engine load and to get the km up, brakes bedded in and get an understanding of how the vehicle handles.

Then change the oil, and then good to go.

Haven't had an engine related issue with the last 6 brand new cars I've brought.

The design of the DSG in D mode was to get the engine to be at its most economical as quickly as possible and yes it does bog down at low speeds .

i noticed that you can get your oil tested for about $35

It would show if you do have premature engine wear,

not used so much for the general population, but for companies that have large machinery with large oil volumes, its a cheap way to see if the oil is still doing its job. without changing it.

I hate to say it Bryn but anyone including new T6 owners might have the same problem as the new "D" suffix EGR coolers don't have any history as yet as it takes about 2years before they start to fail.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, but hopefully the redesigned EGR coolers does fix the issue, like you said we won't know for a few years.

I'll most likely pick up a the 2 year extended warranty before my 3 year VW warranty ends, if there is an ongoing issue as i'll most likely keep this van for about 5 years.

The extended warranty doesn't cover the EGR or problems arising from the EGR.

Well then, thats a pain, still can't do much about it, if it happens it happens.

Excluding a known defect, doesn't sound like an insurance company would do that
