Any thoughts gentlemen?
Thank you.

I understand it that it was the VW dealer who offered you a chemical cleaning.
So, in all fairness to them, perhaps you should let them try to chemically clean the DPF and with less than 100kkm travelled IMO you had a good chance for it to come good.
Some practical advise for others as well.
Many drivers know by now that the DPFs don't like extremely short trips, but usually it's a driver who didn't read all the warnings in the Owner's manual, especially these related to the DPF. Like:
(Not exact wording from the Owner's manual, but it may help to some to easy understand)
The use of right engine oil is very important
The engine oil changes - should be performed more often if the vehicle is driven under severe driving conditions
The prolonged idling is big NO
When there is any warning light or message on the dash, act on it immediately not in a week, month or when the vehicle goes in the limp mode.
The bellow is not from the Owner's manual, but will help if you drive a lot of very short trips:
Use the DPF cleaner additive, like the Penrite DPF Cleaner at Penrite recommended intervals of 5,000km (1bottle/30L of diesel)
Use the concentrated diesel fuel additive like Liqui Moly 2769 at every fill up
Change the engine oil every 6 months regardless of kilometresPerformance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

I'll bet the sales people wouldn't tell you that at point of sale , I have said it before seems todays technology is not as smart as what they tell us . Having to change ones driving style to suit something that is known to have issues is not smart , it's DUMB ! I will add there are lots of other brands besides VW who also have some dumb technology , so I am not just putting down VW here .

DPF drama's are universal, you should see what the Mazda DPF people have been through, makes VAG technology actually look good!2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

If it makes you feel better worst case I know of is a miner in rural South Africa who had his Land Rovers DPF go into limp mode and stop the car, and some local tribesmen came by and dispatched him and his mate. The Mazda's DPF cycle causes rises in oil levels, and when it goes wrong it rises so much it has been blowing main seals, and for some time there was no fix. Fords clog up so bad on the EGR that they won't even idle - I actually got a call from a major dealer for advice as all the Transits were falling over, and Volvo DPF's cost almost twice as much as genuine VAG ones. It's amazing what goes on out there in modern diesel land.2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |

For all the hoo-ha about DPFs, I'd say VW has very few issues with them. Sure, there was a time when the DPF pressure differential sensors would crap out, but it's been a few years since I've done one of those.
I've only ever replaced one DPF, and that was an iffy set of circumstances at best. Basically, the customer bought the car new, only did about 20kms a week in it, driving from home to work everyday. After 2,000kms or so, the DPF was stuffed.
I hear stories about other manufacturers, where wildly varying engine oil levels due to re-gens, causing the DPF itself to fail early on.'07 Transporter 1.9 TDI

Hate to say it George, but diesels are far more likely to become a thing of the past before DPF's.
Diesel hybrids will be next if anything, and the diesel part quickly downsized to zero is my guess.2014 Skoda Yeti TDI Outdoor 4x4 | Audi Q3 CFGC repower | Darkside tune and Race Cams | Darkside dump pDPF | Wagner Comp IC | Snow Water Meth | Bilstein B6 H&R springs | Rays Homura 2x7 18 x 8" 255 Potenza Sports | Golf R subframe | Superpro sways and bushings | 034 engine mounts | MK6 GTI brakes |
