Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Here is a Valvebody from a O9K Transmission out of a T5 Van, we can repair these units and we also rebuild the Solenoids, replacing the bushes inside the solenoid it self.

Yes I know I had ours rebuilt a couple of years back when the internal filter became blocked with decayed fluid and then clutch particles . Bloody VW would not remove the sump to replace the filter which lead to the whole thing destroying itself . The dealer did a "alleged "service nice job to just remove a bolt at the sump drain the fluid and refill it with $68 a litre which was instantly contaminated by the sludge in the bottom and then it flushed out all the other muck which then blocked the filter result a full destruction job thanks VW . I saw ours with its intestines laid bare on a work bench here in Brisbane , I was able to write my initials in the sludge that was left there by VW dealer .

Please don't say that Rebuild my nerves are still on edge with VW autos , after the Tiptronic debacle I still worry about our DSG equipped van .

Here are some pics of a T 5 that I am doing, u can see the K 2 clutch sleeve (steel) in the bottom of the case, this is a common failure, they spin and block the oil feed hole, loss of 4/5/6 gear, or shift complaints
The other issues these units have is the K1 clutch circlip groove wears allowing excessive clearance in piston movement

A timely piece, even for a Brisbanite.

I tracked back to my last gear box "service" through a well respected non-dealership & yep, they didn't crack the sump off either. I'm giving Action Transmissions a go this time. They spelled out what they'll do without being prompted & it all sounds good.

yes u need to remove sump, and change the filter, the filters seem to always have some debris on the screen, that way you will also extract about 70% of the old Fluid, We always connect the scan tool up to check for fault codes at the same time. Hope it all goes well for you.
                      Cheers

As expected, filter was blocked up with crap, but nothing metallic, oil was filthy, sump plug was "welded" tight - in other words what has been said about VW style gearbox servicing. Because of the foregoing, they ran a sacrificial load of oil through to flush as much muck out as possible. Once finished, the box performed to spec & didn't throw up any nasty messages. Phew!

And on the positive side, they were carrying VW engine oil so they did a service as well.
