Brake warning light

Got a price from dealer of $777 front and $737 rear for disc & pad replacement fitted.

But they said I won't need to do it for quite a while. Seems brake dust build up is causing my squeals and a simple clean out will suffice.
10mm left on front and 6mm left on rear.
Just rolled over 90k

Not wanting to start any sort of price fight I recently upgraded my front discs to full vented style heavy duty and new pads for around

Rears were much the same when I did them some years back , the only reason I upgraded the fronts this time was a shudder had developed because of not cleaning the facing surfaces of the disc hub leading to a minute out of alignment issue that took a while to cause the issue . Oh by the way I got the same story with my wife's T4 many years ago after its 30000 kay service , the VW dealer told me they were getting low and said they would need to be done at the next service 45000kay well two months later the light cam on and I had a fight on my hand getting them to acknowledge that the mechanic may have made a mistake on his inspection . The reason they only lasted a short term was VW use soft compound disc pads so they give "the right feel "as they described it . GSL for me as they do know their stuff .

Are these the same diameter as stock model or larger? Do you find much difference performance wise or same but cheaper?

My van is 2005 T5 2.0 petrol manual the discs were the same as factory but better heavy duty . Performance wise they as good as the originals and I do a lot of highway / city driving . Personal choice as I just find manufacturers parts are ridiculously priced here in Australia .

How many KM's will I get isn't something people can answer. If you're driving in stop start traffic that number is going to be far less than long haul trips across the country since you can do a lot of km's without touching the brakes.

All this chatter has me wondering about mine. Our T5.2 was done by the dealership at 90,000, at the time it was under a lease so I didn't ask many questions, but given there was no light I wonder just how much was left on the pads/discs. It was only the fronts and was only about $500 so I wasn't too fussed. Next time round it will be me paying so I will probably be a little more interested.

In a seemingly incredible stroke of luck, today I'm doing a job for the owner of Tooley Imports in Sydney (Vw spares supplier) he asked me about my van & said if I ever need any parts to hit him up. I told him about the brakes he called the office and priced me at $400 total for all 4 sets of pads and rotors in Vw supplied non badged OEM.

Done discs and rotors several times in the last 15 years with our various vans and its a doddle . The only thing you mainly need is a a long extension bar to crack the original bolts , then make your own custom socket to wind back the adjustable pistons .

Hey sunny, what do you know about rotor compatibility? As in I can get front and rear pads and front rotors from my work contact mentioned earlier, but he is out of stock for 4-6 weeks of rear rotors. If I get rears from GSL would that work or are the rotors different in dimensions from OEM?

Guys I was told 10000 km ago on my last service my pads would not make the next service and need to be replaced, my light has just come on and I have 5000 till next service.
Do you think I can make it till the service? As money is a issue atm.
Advice appreciated.

The rotors are the same dimensions as factory normally I give my Vin number to GSL to ensue I get the right ones . The main difference is whether you want vented or standard , the vented are a bit dearer
