So it’s not just my vehicle that specifies 102 then.

It is crazy because even a rating of 101 = 825kg, which is well above the 3000kg GVM of the T5.

I asked my VW dealer about the Dakar rims a while ago and he said they are available as an accessory in Australia, when I asked about which tyres to go with them he said he would contact VW and I haven’t heard back yet.

At least you won’t have to worry about the rims; they are load rated to 875kg!

        Tell im e's dreamin!

If it's the same vehicle I saw advertised 2 days ago, look at the ridiculous money he wants.
        It's done over 100,000kms and wants over $40K for a 2006 (?) van!

          Hi Ken

Can I ask if there's much difference in ride quality/handling with the 18's?

I just received our Multivan and thinking of going from the 16 inch alloys to the 18 inch alloys. Not cheap though! Dealer quoted me 2.5K for the 4 wheels.

            G'day Alan.
I find them (the 18's) no problem re ride quality. Of course, the van rides more comfortably when there's some weight in it (i.e my motorcycle) and if you get decent quality tyres, the road noise can be a lot less.
I would like to lower my van in the future, but not a real priority right now. They do look good though!
Re price for genuine VW Dakars, yep, around $2500 for the OEM rims, and $$2300 for the Yokohama Advan tyres. I went with the Yokies due to the R&D, and the tyre reports I had read.
            Best wishes mate.

Hi all, new bloke here, read this thread with interest because I was sure that someone else would have stumbled on my solution by now.
I bought a set of VX calais (holden) rims on fleabay, 16", 38mm offset, PCD 120.
Hub was 69.7mm and T5 is I think 64mm. Took the rims down to luigi at my local engineering shop to machine the centres out to 73mm. This is the size that most aftermarket rims are. Went to speedy's and laid down a whole $20 for a set of hub centric rings, bought some blank 65mm centre caps and stuck the VW logo on them ($5). Toatal cost $130 per wheel INCLUDING good tyres.
The tyres are now on the wifes Honda and my steelies are stacked in the back of the shed. The Holden option probably gives you the second largest range in Australia to choose from.

Do the VX rims have a sufficient load rating...Insurance companies check these things although I hope you're never in a situation that require a check.

I did spec out the VX rims before purchase, can't remember the finer points but they did come in OK. Some of the Commode rims did'nt and hardly any of the aftermarket rims made the grade. Some of the cheaper imports did not even make spec for the holden. ROH mostly have a higher rating than required and the T5 is only a GVM of 3000kg. Also helps that ROH are based in Adelaide and are accessible for info.

One other bonus with your VX rims is they seem less convex on the spokes then some of the factory supplied rims and less likely to hit kerbs as I discovered with cobble stone kerbing in Richmond recently, the sound was horrible as the front rim ground the stones.

Is it only me that can not see BXBs pictures?

Can anyone out there put these pictures up so i can have a look please?

I have been tooking at some Toe-Rag...(Touareg) wheels for my T5 Caravelle.

The lower engine spec vehicle has the 120 PCD wheels on it.

They work out at £720 for the wheels and tires here in the UK.

                        Thats about $1400AUS i think.

Can anyone tell me the numbers you have on the side of the tyre out there in OZ,

I would think about bringing them over with me when we get the visa if they have the correct numbers on them.

                        Cheers Rob

                          Hi Rob.
I'm not sure if you told us what size rims you have.
                          I have the 18's, and fitted Yokohama Advan ST 235/18/50 R18 101W's.
A higher rated Advan is available in 18's, with larger width. I was concerned with interference with the side of the van, but will get these next as I think they would look a bit meaner!

How's the weather at your place?
                          Best wishes mate.
