Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Headlight wiring insulation disintegrating - new loom?

My headlight wiring insulation is failing. It 's affecting the wiring in the actual headlight itself. Apparently this is a thing. WTF?

Noticed it after a bulb blew. Off course it comes just after I spent a few hours polishing the discolored lenses.....and ordering new bulbs...

Anyway, is there a replacement loom available for inside the headlight?
    For a 2006 Multivan.

    Thanks

If it is the same as a touareg the answer is NO. I even contacted the manufacturer in France and found they were less than helpful and would not even give me the name of the company that supplied the connectors, so I am doing the harness myself in milspec high temp wire.

What do the connectors look like? TE makes most automotive stuff. It can be hard to find the part numbers, but I have found suppliers, even for the large 50+ pin RVC connectors.

TXL cable would be good for that application, rated for high temp and it is pretty thin, TXL AUTOMOTIVE PRIMARY COPPER WIRE

The connector is the white one in the rear of the headlight housing, it is very brittle and almost impossible to remove. I drilled a hole in the side of the housing but even then the locking tabs broke off. Looked for hours on the net but could not find them.
