Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Can't select 5th and 6th gears

    Hi All,
We have a 2008 Transporter 6 speed manual and when I go to put it into either 5th or 6th gear, there is nothing there. I can select the gear but it is just in neutral.

Any thought of what it can be?

Maybe get someone to operate the lever and then a second person to get under the car SAFELY to see if there is some sort of linkage problem .I have the same model but a couple of years earlier 2005 . Im not sure if there are any linkages directly under the shift stick where the gear lever boot is but also worth checking .I,ll have a poke around in mine later and see if there is something to point you towards for a fix .
