Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • V6 or V8 Engine Swap Into T4 Caravelle

    Hi All,

I am thinking of doing an engine transplant into a T4 Caravelle.

Other than the V8 T4 (I believe it is an Audi A6 4.2L V8 Quattro conversion), has anyone done something similar?

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Regards,

There's been a few Porsche engine swaps too. Mind you...most of them put the engine out the back.

There's scope for a few different V6 engines up front but it'll be cramped unless they are fairly shallow Vs...same goes for the V8s.

With my dual cab chassis I'm thinking either a mid mounted Porsche engine or a full electric conversion.

If they are still in business the guys at Camden GTI did a radical transplant a few years back in a T4 but not sure what they used . They used to post on here but havent seen them in the last few years .

I have a similar interest for the T4/5 transporter range but looking at diesel options in lieu of 2.5 TDi
Audi have a 3.0 litre V6 but being 90 degree V , it could struggle for space.
                    Can anyone confirm ..?

You could check a Golf with the VR6 engine as it was also fited to the late T4,s
                      2.8 VR6 AES VR6 DOHC 12v 2,792 cc (170.4 cu in 140 PS (103 kW; 138 bhp) at 4,500 240 N⋅m (177 lbf⋅ft) at 3,000 1996–2000
                      2.8 VR6 AMV, AXK VR6 DOHC 24v 2,792 cc (170.4 cu in)204 PS (150 kW; 201 bhp) at 6,200 245 N⋅m (181 lbf⋅ft) at 2,500 2000–2003

Apparently it was a bit thirsty which is why VW dropped the V6 for later models .
