So for a measly $32 I fitted a set of these , no wiring to the wheel they operate wirelessly to a receiver inside the dash out of sight and hook up to even factory wiring if required . Controls all functions ie phone answer and hang up volume track /station selection mode change and they lite up as you touch them . I will admit it was a bit scary at first as I wanted them flush with the surounding moulding of the wheel , so I used a 40 mm hole saw and drilled through the vinyl and then honed it a fraction more until it was a smiddgen smaller than the button units diameter . The button sits snugly and only a fraction above the surrounding surface into the wheel and it looks and works perfectly .

Each to their own, but to me that's not a desirable hack

I did a multifunction Mk6 GTi steering wheel into a T5.1 as part of a cruise control retrofit and it was pretty straight forward.

      hi kamold
no the orig wheel was not mutifunction
i only fitted it because it was so much better than oem
i do have the orig transporter wreck

      hi sunny
nice job with the steering wheel
the only reason i chased this was because i had the hardware
if it wont go easy then ill drop it...the engine was my priority and that is sensational
shame if i cant get the rest to work....what a joke...when i unplugged the connectors for the engine i just shook my head..does anybody really know what all those wires do?.....say goodbye to the backyard mechanic(me) LOL

You'll need to connect a few wires to the BCM, and you may need to upgrade to a higher spec BCM, depending what you have:
You need to have a version that ends in 087 or higher. For example: 7H0937087 / 7H0 937 087.

Kamold , Quote "Each to their own, but to me that's not a desirable hack " End Quote . Not sure why its a hack , if it works and it does seamlessly then it's not a hack .Looking back I could have ordered black buttons as they give you the option probably not as obvious then , but hey for $30 odd bucks I might still change them to black as it would only take two minutes and no mucking with anything else . Just because its not original and costs a fortune then in my view its a simple solution , if you add up what has been suggested is needed to do Merlot,s conversion how much for the BCM / wiring looms and then the coding . I always look outside the box for solutions to problems , it comes from my work background where you very quickly work out ways around what the experts say can,t be done . I stupidly tried to by an original VW wheel from a wreckers when I wanted a MFSW and wasted a lot of time and ended up ditching the donor wheel at the dump . I was only offering some ideas to Merlot as it seems he is floundering trying to figure out the VW system .

            thanks for the links Kamold
im going to put the orig wheel back on for the time being,as i dont have a horn atm
ill check the airbag recall first,as the T6 wheel has a euro bag fitted

i will join erwin later(i found out who they are lol) and will investigate the BCM in both vehicles, but as Sunny says, this is outside my comfort level

            thanks again

              hi Kamold
i took the BCM from the wreck and it is7E0937090B
can i plug this into my 2010 van
do i need to code it given that already swapped:cluster, ignition, headlights, steering wheel,ECU,engine
is there a link to coding as i cant find anything on my level LOL

thanks for help....not quite ready to give up just yet

I'm not sure if it is a suitable replacement...supersession of the 7H0937087 part only goes as far as 7H0937087P.
But there is no harm in taking a copy of your current BCM coding and also make an adaptation channel map, then swap in the T6 BCM.

I wouldn't just copy the T5 BCM coding string to the T6 BCM, as they might well be completely different. But start with just testing it without making any changes to the T6 BCM coding, then if things aren't working properly you'll need to start checking through the coding bytes and their descriptions in VCDS to try and match the config as closely as possible to your car's configuration.
Take particular note of the installation list as the BCM also acts as the canbus gateway in PQ25 platform cars.

There is no security system associated with the BCM, but it does control all of the car's electrics so it might be a bit of trial and error if it does work somewhat.

                    oh happy days
this morning i received an unsolicited email from a chumley, and there was a link to a "how to" connect MFDS to BCM

not sure if link will work....im not puter savvy and dont know how to link to a PDF

i followed the instructions(13 pages of them)to the letter, and i now have a fully functioning MFDS
it also allows me to scroll through pages on the new cluster(the T6 cluster has lots of good things including digital speedo)
prior to this,it only showed "dist remaining"

as Kamold said,it was really quite easy, but without the coding info supplied,i would never have finished...my $60 vag lead worked a treat also(first time attempt at coding)
i also used the orig BCM and was really happy to find the 2 plugs to it are on the front(the T6 is mounted backwards and the plugs are not so easy to access)
splicing into the wire was also easier as a result
                    even the horn works

will try tonight to see if wheel is lit up
thanks to everyone for their help and knowledge

this shows the easy access to the wires to the BCM
the second wire taps into the light switch

Gotta be careful of those unsolicited emails...

                      Making great progress there Russ!
Not so difficult when you have a bit of info to reference.
