  • T6 radio into T5.1 wiring help needed

im putting a T6 radio into my T5.1? van (2010)

the only reason for doing this is for the phone function on the T6
ive paired my phone to the T6 and it works a treat
i dont have the sensors for parking etc but later may fit a reverse camera

the square plugs on both radios are not interchangeable
so i need to find the correct wires for each function and change them over

    T6 radio plug

T5 radio plug (very simple but power and canbus wires are in different positions)

ive managed to get the T6 working but when i use the phone,i can hear them but they cant hear me
so i must need a seperate mic
i cant find a pic of this radio wiring to the the plug after 2 days searching and i cant use donor loom as its too complicated for me

is it as simple as finding the 2 connectors, then connecting a mic to them?

i tried connecting mic to the black and whites at both ends of the blue plug but no luck(the wires on the left are a coax cable)
the green plug(sits next to the blue plug)has lots of wires in it and i dont know what any are for,

    any help very much appreciated

Unless the T6 radio has been hardware patched, you have a cumulative 8 hours run time before it's locked with component protection and nothing will function.
Mic pins on the MIB are the black and white ones in the bottom left of your bottom picture.
There is a full pinout on Briskoda:

If it won't let the hotlink work:

      thankyou so much

i will get a better mic than the one i was using and have a real go now

i paid for radio codes for both radios but the T6 didnt need it,it just started straight up
is that what you meant with the 8 hr lockout?
the T5 radio needs code every time i disconnect it

      thanks again

        No it's not a code.
As soon as the radio is powered up outside of the original vehicle, the timer starts.
Once it reaches a total run time of 8 hours without being able to talk to the component protection master (in the case of t6 that's the instrument cluster) then it's locked. All functions stop and the only way to resolve that is with dealer tools and it has to be in a T6.
There is a hardware hack that basically resets the countdown every time you power it on, but it has to be soldered onto the main board. It's a custom board

Sounds like you may be better off with an aftermarket one which will come with all the functions you are after and more , without the problems of all that software protection stuff and wiring . I have used aftermarket ones in both our T5's 2005 model and 2012 model , in my older T5 I actually purchased the later T5.1 facia and fitted that in place of the original as then I was able to fit any unit for the newer shape head units . Currently running two of these in our vans Erisin ES8805V 8" Android 8.0 Car Stereo DAB+ GPS CD DVD OPS 4G TPMS for VW Passat Golf Tiguan Eos .

which explains why i wasted US$25 on the unecessary code

given that i swapped out the cluster from the T6 i think ill pursue the swap

if it craps out, then ill go with Sunnys solution

            thanks for all replies

If you have the cluster also then you are OK. Together they are the Component Protection network. In MQB cars there are a lot more parts that make up the network.

Well that is if you have the tools to match the immobilizer to your ecu with the new cluster etc

After reading these by now I would have slashed my wrists and laid down to die !!, jeez what load of nonsense these car makers do these days . Look I know the purists would say it's integration or some other response but hey is it that critical . Yes the old pin code was fine but now its gone even one step further .Wait ok I know its me I am getting old . Ok I just did some research its the old gag that lots of car makers have been using for many years . Apparently its to prevent second hand or stolen parts from being used in another car , unless you spend $$$ to have the dealer recode the computers to register the new part . I found out about this about ten years ago when I was asked to replace a faulty sunroof motor for a customer in his Peugeot , uh uh no you can't do that according to Mr Peugeot . You need the car to be taken to the dealer where they hook it up to ? wait for it " Planet Peugeot " yes a worldwide system which then tells the cars computer to play nice with the new part what a joke .

                    im with you sunny
been trying to pair my new steering wheel(all off same wreck) with my $60 ebay vag lead
nfg....controller cant see it?????fat controller no doubt lol
so i went to ross website and almost pulled the trigger on $200 US vag lead, until i found out postage is $120 US
fmd...not sure what to do atm
do i need to pair the cluster first?why?given that i used the wreck ECU with wreck engine and wreck cluster
my $60 ebay vag seems to work ok but wont see 16 steering wheel
if i go to go to man its going to cost me a ton which i could recoup on ross cable

                    any advise greatly appreciated
atm i have mfs?steering wheel fitted but no horn or scroll or radio control.....hopefully the new airbag(not takata)will go off when i hit something lol

i swapped everything out when i swapped the engine over and it started right up
its going well atm but there are a few bugs with accessories
                      im just not puter savvy

                      many thanks for your input

Ah if you've swapped the engine too then no probs as long as you have the original t6 keys.
You have no 16 steering wheel.
Transporter or pq25 platform like a polo.
So the multifunction steering wheel is directly connected to the BCM.
You can download all the wiring diagrams for both t5.1 and t6 to compare from Erwin. You can get a 1 hour access with printing rights for 7 euro

                          thanks kamold
yes i swapped the ignition too
but only because the orig key was sticking in most times

go to man told me that gearstick button was problem, and he was correct
i was going to revert to T5 ignition given that i have 3 keys for it against 1 key for T6

how do i get T6 steer wheel to respond?

Was your original steering wheel multifunction?
If not then there are new pins you need to run to the BCM and change some coding.
If it was multifunction then it should work, but I'd have to start looking at the wiring diagrams.

+I tried to do a multi function wheel some years ago with our T5.1 and gave up in disgust at all the paraphernalia that was required , steering wheel wiring looms you name it it was starting to add upto a small house in the burbs . So for a measly $32 I fitted a set of these , no wiring to the wheel they operate wirelessly to a receiver inside the dash out of sight and hook up to even factory wiring if required . Controls all functions ie phone answer and hang up volume track /station selection mode change and they lite up as you touch them . I will admit it was a bit scary at first as I wanted them flush with the surounding moulding of the wheel , so I used a 40 mm hole saw and drilled through the vinyl and then honed it a fraction more until it was a smiddgen smaller than the button units diameter . The button sits snugly and only a fraction above the surrounding surface into the wheel and it looks and works perfectly .
