  • Weight of 2.5L Engine and Auto Transmission?

    Hi All,

Just looking at different options of getting the 2.5L AXE engine and HCE auto transmission out. It would be helpful to know the approximate weights of the engine and / or transmission but my powers of google and the repair manuals don't seem to have the info. Does anyone know?

    Thanks, Sam

    I’d say around 250kg.

Well my guess would be BLOODY heavy , I have removed a T4 2.5 petrol engine and gearbox with an engine lift stand that I hired so it was not a huge weight that would require any specific machinery to remove .Most hire companies hire them out .

By memory, I think the transmission is about 80kg.

Felt a damn lot heavier than 80KG when I humped mine out from under the van in my T5 ! , had to do a clutch kit and with the van on stands I layed on my back while removing it and the bugger was heavy .

Thanks for replies. Looks like we will be getting the engine crane and lifting up and out now that we've pulled so many bits should be plenty of room. Then hopefully have a guy interested in the dead engine, and seperate the auto transmission whilst on the crane. The joys of wrecking a van and selling the bits!

The T4 I removed engines from was a breeze as you could remove the whole front grill and bar assembly , once all the wires and pipes etc were unhooked it was only held in with 5 bolts from memory .
