Better fuel economy after APR'ed?

Over a tank of fuel I average 9-10L per 100km - thats mostly driving in peak hour with some spirited driving

Best I have averaged on a trip was 6.9l per 100km - thats driving home from the city for 30km on a weeknight around midnight, about half of it on the m4.

The fuel consumption might be affected by choice of gears when cruising. If I am cruising at any speed 65-70km/h or above it is in fifth gear. Below that at most speed limits its in fourth.

Fill up at 450km every time, when light on... doesn't matter hard or wussy driving... and its take 38-39L of BP... Oh and its stock

As Clarkson in the first episode of season 11 denoted - it's all about how you drive! Furthermore, if you're constantly stuck in traffic then that too also doesnt help your quest in saving more fuel. I sincerely hope there arent people filling up their Pogo's with Regular Unleaded or even E10 (god forbid). Fuel also makes a significant difference to how far a car can run.

My car lives off a diet of Shell V-Power perminantly. Since I've owned it, it's only seem BP-Ultimate twice, as there werent any other quality servo's around. Furthermore, I have found that I get less milage out of a full tank of BP Ultimate compared to Shell V-Power. Does anyone have similar or difference findings regarding fuel's?

Jon who has the APR chip still gets about 500km's out of a tank from last I heard, so I personally think it's dependant upon the driver and the type of fuel you put in!

average around 7-8L/100k's. Do a mixture of freeway and stop start.. non chipped. drive it hard occasionally but mostly not as i dont need to.
getting the apr test program done soon (maybe this friday) to see how it goes then get it chipped if i like it (and if the missus likes it too).
would think that it wont improve economy but assuming it will make it more driveable down low revs and more fun in higher revs.

The gains will be on highway driving - like with the cruise control on.

Up to 10% on petrol cars - even with a K04 on our car - on highway we got 6.7 l/100 on a Sydney to Brisbane trip where standard we did 6.9 l/100.

Around town, too many variables

and here i was thinking my economy was bad for my little polo . i get an average of around 400- 450kms out of a full tank, but thats non apr chipped.

I have now found that the more performance mods I've got the better my cruising fuel consumption is getting.

Got 5.7l/100km to the Sunshine Coast from Brisbane on Saturday, 120 indicated in 100 zones and 130 indicated in 110 zones. Climbed to 6.2l/100km cruising Caloundra - Maleny - Nambour - Bli-Bli - Maroochy - Caloundra.

And then on Sunday on the way back to Brisbane got 5.8l/100km.

It is now getting as good as a diesel .... ... but with actual performance when you want it ....

EDIT ... BTW according to the computer 120 indicated is 108 so no "real" speeding involved.

Only downside is that the ECU picks up bad habits just cruising and you need to wring its neck afterwards to get it "back" into performance "mode"

Which sort of defeats the purpose of driving for better fuel consumption.

I get that same consumption with stock motor doing freeway driving, so if a car is chipped, you can still get stock consumption if you drive it the same.

i got it down to 6.1L/100km cruising at 80kph on windsor road last week. usually get around 8L/100km around the suburbs. but thats taking it easy

Thats sounds like me - got it down to 6.2L/100km going to the Sth Coast and average anywhere between 8-9L/100km when driving around the suburbs at a leisurely speed lol

my average (non-chipped) is 7.8l/100km for the past 8000kms. and im a P-plater

best was 5.2 from kalamunda to north perth (trying to get lowest possible)

we ended up getting our jetta done a few months ago.... definitely see an improvement in fuel consumption. averages 8L/100k's with a mixture of freeway and local stop/start traffic. am going to gold coast in Feb so will be interesting to see what freeway only driving will get.
we want to do the polo also... but undecided if we are keeping it or upgrading to golf GTI/ R32 in the near future...
