Sean, K04-001 is transverse fitment. K04-023 is for the TT/S3 and the exhaust exits sideways so the downpipe can clear the propshaft.
Gavin
Excellent. As always mate, really appreciate your input and assistance.

I have a GT2860R with all the APR stage 3 hardware in a box, if only!!
That's what keeps me looking at the mkVI's mate. Depending how all this goes... we'll see.

That wouldn't fit me thinks. They aren't the K04-001 and just looking at the pictures, the orientation appears wrong
Re the Rocco... mmm. Though I think a 4 door may be required for some future proofing.

I've bought a FTG K04-001. The seller (Lee I believe), has been really quick to respond to questions, and I've asked plenty. There are some valid considerations/concerns as to going for an FTG turbo, ultimately because there's not many currently around so getting reviews on them is difficult, and considering the amount of track work I'll be doing, I just have to hope it holds up. I was very clear with Lee about the track work, and he's comfortable to back his product with a 2yr warranty. That's better than I can get locally.
There is also the stigma that it's an "ebay turbo"... well he has to choose some medium to sell his product. From my research, they are built in China, but ARE balanced locally in the US. Lee has the turbo on hand and getting it checked over before dispatch.
I've given up on the rebuild idea. Without naming, the builder has had the turbo 3 wks tomorrow and apart from knowing it's overheated (wrecked the seals and turbine shaft), I'm none-the-wiser as to the real reason. He was meant to provide a brief written report with pics last Friday, I'd emailed on Monday night for an update, called yesterday morning and still nothing. The cars useless without a turbo, and 3 weeks for little action isn't acceptable to me. Not intending to air my dirty laundry, just my reasoning.
Also a shout out to Gavin for his support, lots of messages back and forth has helped me get to this decision.
Anyway, so FTG it is. Fingers crossed it's the last of my woes and can start attacking lap times
