has any of you guys ever thought of keeping the smic as well as having an fmic..
thats what im gonna do when i finally install my FMIC...
what? Why bother? you're adding more chances for air leak and extended piping of varying flow rates.

One interesting point that really hasn't been discussed is how effective is the side mount? Particularly in situations where the car is running one of the aftermarket reflash tunes on a hot summers day?
Has anyone had any issues with the standard side mount in these conditions? Obviously a lower intake temperature will assist with more consistent performance in these conditions, but is the side mount struggling to cope reliably in the heat of a Brisbane summer?
Previous Rides: Polo GTI, Mx5 10AE, MY05 WRX WRP10, Renault Sport Clio 172
Current Ride: Evo 8 MR, Fabia MK3

Effectiveness of the side mount on tune has been discussed in could weather it's fine but even in a melbournesummer the sidemount loses out to heaksoak very quickly you'll notice a significant drop in performance during hot days that the front mount will rectify
hi guys, need your opinion on upgrading the stock SMIC...
i found two aftermarket SMIC (boostfactory, tyrolsport) for vw mk4 golf gti...our polo gti uses the same engine as the mk4 golf gti...do you guys think that it would fit?
why bother upgrading the smic? the problem with heatsoak is that not enough air can get to the place where the SMIC is, so upgrading the SMIC is a waste of money and time IMO. anything other than a nice sized FMIC is a waste of time.
just my thoughts.
there are good FMICs out there if you have a good look. (other than forge/apr)

thanks...
I have looked at this too, and the SMIC for the MK4 Golf GTI and the Polo GTI are completely different, as the Golf GTI's intake for the I/C faces the wrong direction compared to the Polo GTI.

well then FMIC it is...why does the forge fmic kit include a modified crash bar? does this mean the apr fmic kit requires no modification of the crash bar?
the forge has a modified crash bar as without it the normal crash bar would need cutting as it does with the APR. so i guess forge just wanted to make life easier for us.
dont confine yourself to just those two options though. buying a core separate and having custom piping is, as a rule cheaper.
the fmic of the polo gti equivalent in the SEAT range(can't think of the name) fits without cutting the crash bar I think and forge have a piping package in metal and silicone as the VAG OEM stuff is plastic.
