well then FMIC it is...why does the forge fmic kit include a modified crash bar? does this mean the apr fmic kit requires no modification of the crash bar?

I have looked at this too, and the SMIC for the MK4 Golf GTI and the Polo GTI are completely different, as the Golf GTI's intake for the I/C faces the wrong direction compared to the Polo GTI.Originally posted by nikanasz View Posthi guys, need your opinion on upgrading the stock SMIC...
i found two aftermarket SMIC (boostfactory, tyrolsport) for vw mk4 golf gti...our polo gti uses the same engine as the mk4 golf gti...do you guys think that it would fit?
thanks...

why bother upgrading the smic? the problem with heatsoak is that not enough air can get to the place where the SMIC is, so upgrading the SMIC is a waste of money and time IMO. anything other than a nice sized FMIC is a waste of time.
just my thoughts.
there are good FMICs out there if you have a good look. (other than forge/apr)

Effectiveness of the side mount on tune has been discussed in could weather it's fine but even in a melbournesummer the sidemount loses out to heaksoak very quickly you'll notice a significant drop in performance during hot days that the front mount will rectifyOriginally posted by break View PostOne interesting point that really hasn't been discussed is how effective is the side mount? Particularly in situations where the car is running one of the aftermarket reflash tunes on a hot summers day?
Has anyone had any issues with the standard side mount in these conditions? Obviously a lower intake temperature will assist with more consistent performance in these conditions, but is the side mount struggling to cope reliably in the heat of a Brisbane summer?Last edited by Whubbsie; 14-08-2009, 12:04 PM.

More lag? the FMIC from forge or APR is overkill as it is.. dont need both.Originally posted by jueshen View Posthas any of you guys ever thought of keeping the smic as well as having an fmic..
thats what im gonna do when i finally install my FMIC...
Do the vent mod behind the intercooler. not a bad mod. cost ya all of $30.
I noticed the dump pipe contributed to less heat soak as well.

Why bother? you're adding more chances for air leak and extended piping of varying flow rates.

Here is a comparison between stock and the FMIC. See the diffrence in size......

Imagine how much better the 1 is over the other ....... all that core exposed to cool air free flowing over it right at the front of the car....

See the for sale pages ....
Nobody ever complain again about how expensive FMIC setups can be ....

OK, I now have had 5 of these FMIC's arrive at my door ......
See pics on previous pages for the details. They look exactly like that.... Page 3 & 4 pictures are of it fitted to my car.
1st come 1st served.
Weight each is 6.75kg. Cost to be $295 + postage to your door.
Fitment & pipework in Brisbane to be around $700. So a decent FMIC with a perfect fit to a Polo GTI for under $1000 ....
