AAMI were by far the cheapest for me.

AAMI might be the cheapest, but read their policy carefully, as they do NOT give you the choice of a preferred repairer. Their system ensures a AAMI 'authorised' repairer usually gets the job through a "competitive" process (their own cheap and nasty ones) - so you have no say or control with the quality of the repair.

VW provide a 12 yr paint/rust warranty and if they pick up sub-standard repairs, it can void that warranty. Most VW service managers should be able to advise on VW 'approved' repairers who meet VW standards (and will keep your warranty in check).

Actually they do, as long as the quote isn't excessive. I chose the repairer after 2 incidents when insured with them for my last car. My g/f works at the law firm in Brisbane that represents AAMI.

AAMI policy .."you can choose a repairer to provide one of the quotes. Our assessor will review the quotes ...We select the repairer who has submitted the more competitive and complete quote and that will be the repairer who repairs your car".

Yes that may be true,but if your not at all happy with any repairs dont sign the form that states that you are satisfied.

A few years ago now,with AAMI I had that problem of poor quality repair.I refused the car back and they sent it to another repairer who's work was spot on.

Hehehehehehe...There is no such thing as an affluent suburb of Western Sydney!!! Well maybe Mt Druitt or Doonside, or maybe even Toongabbie...!! You risk getting your car knocked off at any number of traffic lights along the Great Western Highway!!!

Yeah maybe no-one should get AAMI insurance because the one chosen repairer in your area has done dodgy repairs.

Maybe you should tell us where you live, what car it was and what road you had the crash on. Then we can not live there, not buy that car and not drive on that road. Or maybe we could just not choose the repairer that actually did the work again.

Just because they choose the repairer doesn't mean every repairer they choose is dodgy. I know the European repairer at Albion is a recommended repairer for Suncorp and AAMI and some other insurance companies.

a friend of my sisters was almost car-jacked in the main street of penrith. she had her window done a little bit and they tried to reach in and grab her. luckily she managed to drive off.

however the bloke in the car behind had his doors unlocked.. he got car-jacked, bashed and of course he's car taken

Doesnt matter where you live.... I know someone who had their Porsche carjacked in the north shore. R32s are apparently a target now as well, and there is more of them in the north shore than around here.

And according to a recent AAMI survey my suburb had the most break and enters for houses. Second was Mosman! It's all relative in my opinion - I have lived here all my life and have never had a thing stolen from me, or a break and enter in the house. And I know plenty of people who live in my suburb who can say the same thing.

Its not like as if its the bronx where I need to carry an AK47 for protection if I walk to my mates house at 1am in the morning

I live in Darwin, but grew up in Penrith and the Blue Mountains. I keep a rather large sharp object in my door map case, and it has be presented before...My female friend from Camden keeps a 1 1/2 foot piece of 3 phase cable in her door sill...
Dad always tought me that there is no such thing as a fair fight...use what you have, and use it well.

NRMA Changes

I just got a quote for insurance with NRMA, very interesting...

They no longer care what modifications you've done to the vehicle, as long as the car is roadworthy....

If the RTA says its roadworthy, they'll insure it at the same price as stock.

Don't know about the value, etc, but for me (<30yrs, want to Chip and lower, Sydney CBD and on street parking) thats a handy edge...
