The same thing happens at my work - we are all over Australia and someone in Brisbane who costs $150 an hour will be 20% more in Sydney.

If you want to save money but keep it serviced at a dealer, you can supply your own oil as that usually makes up about $80 - $90 for 4.5L and you can get 5L of Castrol Edge 0w-40 (VW Approved) for about $70 i think.
That may be another alternative if i do decide to take it to a dealership for servicing.

Rang around to most vw service centres in the sydney area to evaluate their pricing in comparison to Liverpool.

Surprisingly, Liverpool was the most expensive with Penrith being the cheapest. If my dad doesnt object to me using an independant mechanic, that might be my course of action. Only thing is i lose that "extended warranty" but the service manager said theres no problem with servicing my car as long as they use vw parts that are up to their specifications then warranty is still valid for those first 3 years.

Now its just a matter of deciding...

My car is currently at Seb's for it's 90,000km service Front Pads, timing belt, regular service hhmmm about $1300.

Lora my suggestion is to find someone like Seb that's local.

We have the 30,000 service due in about 1,000 k's - can anyone recommend me someone / somewhere in Brisbane to take the Polo that won't void warranty (any more than the mods I have done ) that will be for a competitive price and quality work - I am located inner-northside so somewhere close would be great?

Want them to fit my Forge TIP at the same time and maybe some H&R 35mm's if I can get a set in time...

Please let me know as I would like to find an alternative to the dealer for routine work.

I found Nepean Motor Group at Penrith to be cheap. Last service for my Polo (not GTI) I needed new back brakes (Both sides) and new front brake pads. That plus the regular service cost just over $500 for the lot including Labour and Parts.

Alternatively, if she wants to stick with a dealership, I've had reasonable success with McCarrolls at Waitara (a long hike from Liverpool/Penrith, though!).

I rang a couple of places, and McCarrolls rated fairly low on the 'wallet rape' scale. I'll have to do my 30,000km service in a couple of months, so I'll be ringing around.

had my 30,000k service done today. cost of $340. they also changed the air filter (vw do it at 60,000k's) as from their experience it gets pretty dirty by 30,000k's. they showed me the filter and it was really dirty.

Did so almost a year ago now . Booked in with Jimmy again for January yesterday. You need to get in early .

Will be doing the Martini brake fluid again as well as Redline oil for the gbox.

I had the passat serviced at cricks once which was alright, but anything vw related like warranty - forget it. Got to go to Austral for that. They're all much of a muchness I found.

had my 30,000 service done not that long ago for about $270. it was done by a mate at VW Audi Garage in Southport. does not void warranty there and even Gold Coast VW send him work when they are too busy (he used to be head mech there).
