Congrats to Lora for her 140Kw
Nice result mate. I managed to pull 135kw, shame to not be at the top of the pack, but I'm not complaining.

I wish I'd stayed a little longer to see the other Polo's, but had to fly... Was a long day of waiting...

Hm, my torque is 30 nm less, I've been discussing how I think my tune is dying off over time, but have not been able to show this... new tune is definitely on the cards...

To jellyhouse. Did you see the 2 Phillips head screws on the inside of the hand grips? Remove those, and a firm pull, and the plastic comes out.

Mine had the same problem just after I got it...it just didn't want to shut without a bit of effort
So I went for the default fix for every thing first - a spray of wd40 in the catch
Worked a treat and I didn't need to adjust the catch - might be worth a try

I am having a hard time understanding the huge variences in tunes. For example last weekend at the QLD dyno day i only saw 131kw atw which is average compared to the Sydney crew with weather & heat and different Dyno being mentioned as a possible reason, however I also saw a huge 362nm atw compared to the 269.9nm seen on bfeboi's dyno chart. How can there be 93nms difference??

          Anyone??

          • You can't compare different dynos. Dyno's are inherently inaccurate. They're only useful for doing before and after (tune/mod) comparisions of the same car on the same dyno, and preferably with the same temp/humidity.

            • Their runs were in 3rd gear according to the printout. Not that I know anything about dynos, but that must have an impact.

              • yeah, isn't that the gear they are always done in?

I know that dyno results are to be taken as a guide, but not bible, but my torque was considerably lower than Bfe's, I'm very curious as to WTF is happening in the different tunes and dyno results...

My 240nm does not feel slow, but the car has felt faster. Compared to 360 odd nm, this should be day and night.

Yes I think you're on to something mate! Our runs were done in 4th from memory and for me third is my favourite gear in the polo. But does that explain the massive torque differences?

3rd gear will be the fun gear for the K03 for sure, everything full. I think the K04 will benefit in 4th. Thats my opinion.

                    • Oh, I want to hear more on that...

So I've been trying to find out some actual info on Dyno'ing, and as per usual, there is a lot of hearsay and little data.

Here is some info taken from this site: Mustang Power! We Dyno the 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0 V-8 and 3.7 V-6 | Car News Gossip

                      2011 Mustang 5.0

                      3rd gear (1.69:1)
                      Horsepower: 365.26 hp @ 6600 rpm
                      Torque: 335.27 lb ft @ 4500 rpm

                      4th gear (1.32:1)
                      Horsepower: 377.99 hp @ 6500 rpm
                      Torque: 351.44 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm

So, when we equate this to the Gear Ratio of the Polo: Gear Ratio: 1st – 3.30, 2nd - 1.94, 3rd - 1.36, 4th - 1.03, 5th - 0.82 (assuming they did not change the gearing during the production), then 4th gear should read higher Power and Torque.

So what does this all mean? I have NO IDEA! Pulling similar HP but 1/3 less Torque just sounds wrong. I don't have a clue and the more I read, the more 1/2 brained opinions I come across.

I think I'll just accept mine is what I've been told it is and try to work out why my Torque is out of whack.

I might put that into theory next dyno day at EFI and have a crack at 3rd not 4th then!

As for the cams mate, so good!!!

Dont worry mate i am already planning to have more dyno time for myself to get more "dyno smart" its an enjoyable side of the trade i reckon

                            Hi mate,

I would really like to know what the logic is behind the k03 being better in 3rd and the k04 being better in 4th. As far as I know the turbos are very similar apart from the k04 being able to supply a slightly better boost (mine excepted)

                            • I think He's saying the K03 makes 3rd gear good for the Polo, but with the added power, 4th could have as much pull.

It seems that the gear with the closest value to 1 (4th gear being 1.03) will give the most accurate readings. It would appear that doing the runs in 2nd may vary the results, in this circumstance it would not suprise me if our HP was reading a little high and our torque reading low... Don't think we will be able to do much to prove or disprove this theory.

                              • Well It wasn't today, and not really on Saturday either. My dyno result was 126.8kw, up from the stock 92.4 on the same dyno back in 2006. That's just Unitronic, CAI and TIP and the Uni flash was only $880. Great result for such little money.

Possibly paying my car out this week, won $2700 on Keno with some mates last week so that helps out big time
