Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Nope, not a chance. This car is supposed to be my 'cheap but fun car' while I build my new home. Any money that could be spent on unnecessary mods is going to one of two funds:

      1. House
      2. Evo X MR

I almost wasn't going to chip it, believe it or not

Can someone advise me on this? I was about to use BKUR6ET's to replace the stock plugs on a chipped engine. So are the 7s (one range colder I presume) a better way to go - I want to get it right as they're not cheap?

        Any comment/experience/advice appreciated.

From what I read the 7's are more suited to chipped cars. The rule I read was 1 heat range colder for ever 50hp over stock.

Not cheap?! I paid $10.50 a plug, that's cheap enough for me

          • Cubby arrived today... thanks for the tips of getting the old unit out. New unit front in first then the back it sat a little high so a little downwards pressure and it clipped in. Sits perfectly flush all over. Have to see how the lid holds up on some bumpy roads. Otherwise very happy.

            • brake upgrade

Got my pog back from Jmac today

New swaybar links and s3 front brakes with slotted rotors and martini fluid.

              It stops.

Not sure about the pedal feel yet but wow it stops, again and again.

              • Yeah Boy! Whats's next for the Meanie Ben?? Phase II perhaps to warrant all that stopping power

BTW I detect from your post that you may not be all together happy with the brake pedal feel??? If that's correct I have read on UK-POLOS.net that tonnes of guys who have done that upgrade have said the same thing with only the Audi fronts on. But the solution they hae all found is with the rears done as well it feels better. Food for thought

                        • They are Toyo 888??

They came on the rims as they guy had them as his track wheels on his R32

Tires are stuffed anyway, cant drive on them untill I get new ones, so had to take them off

Still need a little spacer to clear the brakes, just needs a few mm, so the car is back with standard brakes and wheels for now

Im a bit suprised here really, i tested the brakes and they were VERY good. And not to forget the new pads and discs have only done less than 20kilometers. That was merely to take the greeness away from them. Now even at that i felt the brakes were VERY good and will only get better IMO. It will take at least 300ks for the bed in process to take full effect so probably not the right time to be judging feel IMO. New brakes will take up to 300ks like i mentioned to bed in properly.
