Seat Air Intake Fitting Instructions

Tools Needed

1. Philips Screw Driver (preferably a magnetic tip one)
2. No. 20 Torx Bit.( you should be able to use a allen key but im not recommending it)
3. Torch (I needed one)
4. Stanley Knife

Parts Needed.

1. Seat Air Intake Hose
2. Seat Air Intake Trumpet.

Time - 15min

Here is a picture of the original One.

Now here is a step by step guide.

1. Near the Air Box you will see a screw. (see picture below) Remove the screw. Making sure you don’t drop it.



2. Now you will see a join. (below pic). Pull the Hose section out of the join and then pull it away from the airbox.



3. Now there are 4 tabs on trumpet 2 one the top and one either side. (Pic Below) Push the Tabs in and pull the standard trumpet out.

THE NEXT 2 ARE OPTIONAL. It has been pointed out that the flap maybe there to deflect stones down. But in my opinion they cant get very far anyway. And the Grill should stop most. SO these steps are your persaonal Choice. (PM me your thoughts please.)
4. Now you will see the part that the trumpet came out of. It is attached to the front of the car with 2 torx bits. (below pic) Undo the screws and take induction funnel out.


5. Look down the induction funnel and you will see a flap that is blocking the flow of air. (Pic below) Cut it out with a Stanley knife or something similar.



And it will look like this.

6. Time to put it back together. Its pretty straight forward. Start with the induction funnel. Then the Seat Intake Hose. Put it in first. This is a tight fit but will go in no worries. Then put the Trumpet on the Hose and pop it into the Induction Funnel. And it will look just like the original again.

Would it be recommended to sand off the platic bit after cutting it out with a stanley knife?

Ryan to be honest i dont want to say much as far as performance gains as i dont want to lead anyone astray. I will say this is only part of my intake upgrade. I will be doing a bmc goup buy prolly in a month so that everyon can get the funds. Then i want the TIP fro forge which i will probably do a group buy as well if i can get a good enough price from england.

See the thing is with small mods like this that you can imagine huge gains. (something like a placebo effect) It is colder atm so it will affect it as well but i can honestly say seat of my pants it does feel stronger but like i said i would need VAg-com to justify that with some real time figures if oyu know what i mean.

Thanks mate, Thats exactly why i did it and not just put a piece if pipe in there. I want me ebay as stock looking as i can.

thanks loon, Yeah its at least half the size of the Seat one if not a little smaller. and when you remove the flap i recon air will get force up into the airbox with ease.

The flap is part of what i called the induction funnel. Its not part of what you are replacing but the trumpet sits in it. Not sure how not removing it will affect. But as you can see in the pic it is fairly restrictive. I guess in the end its up to you. Id say hhave a look when you take it all apart, and see what you think. I cant see how anything can get into the airbox if you do remove the flap but thats my opinion.

Good work shaneth. Manages to look stock and seamless so I reckon most VW service centres probably wouldn't notice (or care) in most cases. If you check out some of other hoses in the bay, there's seat hoses already in there!

The air intake in the Polo GTI is it's weakest link. Not much point in installing a larger pipe if the front intake flap is blocking most of the air to begin with. That should go or be opend up completely. Also, it's well worth changing the paper air filter with a BMC one (much higher flow). Then you have freed up flow in three critical areas. Most drivers would then notice that their cars won't die off at 5-5000 rpm anymore, that's bc the turbo is getting the extra air it badly needs.
